The composition is careful and thought out. The lighting and color scheme is lovely. This works as an abstract composition that has merit outside the boundaries of the challenge. Among my top three picks.

This was one of the few 'clever' shots I rated high. It is in my top three picks. It is not only genuinely witty but very well executed. The photo is visually appealing regardless of the boundaries of the challenge.

This was in my top three. I love the sincere expression on the toddler's face. This is an age when they are learning to share and this shot depicts that beautifully. It doesn't look like a set-up. The banana is important to the shot but the photo has a universal theme that works outside the boundaries of this challenge. I vote on all challenges with that main idea in mind.

I guess I should have just looked for a different shot. Here is the original I took. It is much better in terms of focus but it could use some cropping also. This is was taken on an overcast day just after rain. The overcast lighting displays the color so much better. I took this the day before the challenge started.

Decently executed but it doesn't raise the subject from the mundane.

Man's Oldest Habit

I'm in disagreement that man's oldest habit is reading the Bible since until the invention of the printing press, most folks didn't even own a Bible. But daily reading of Scripture is a habit (in the way that brushing one's teeth, making one's bed, etc becomes habitual). This is a rather mundane depiction of that habit, however.

Weird idea. Original though. There is too much visual clutter off to either side of the frame. It might have worked if it was cropped to just above his head. That would give it a 'caught-in-the-act' claustrophobic effect and eliminate a lot of the clutter (like the outlet/light switch thing directly above his head). I'm not sure I would love it that much more but it would be an improvement.

This is a cute shot and well executed. Strangely, I don't love it and I like animal photos. I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe because I can't see the puppy's eyes? It might be the perspective; the way the puppy's body recedes directly behind it.

This is the second time I've loked at this photo and I still don't get it. Is te guy in the corner taking a picture of the person in the distance? What is that thing at the top? Is that a person, a statue, a fence post...?
At any rate, only in very specific circumstances am I considering a hobby a habit for this challenge. Photography can be a passion, a need, an urge but that does not define it as a habit.

Aesthetically, I like the sky in this shot but I don't care for the arrangement of the sillouhetted figures. I have a feeling I will be in the minority with this opinion.

There isn't enough visual appeal to the sign on the window for it to be the main focus. Cropping the edge of what I assume is the letter "a" for habitat would have made this a little more effective.
