Hard Bread

hmmmm, not sure whether I don't get it or don't like it. I think this picture contains many elements that distract from what I think is the subject of your picture. To start with the subject, it is a bread with some sauce or creamcheese on the outside. I don't understand why you framed it that way, but I do not think it is a pretty sight. The lighting is very harsh, probably a direct flash. Direct flashes produce reflections, blown highlights and sharp shadows. Next time, try to soften the light, either by bouncing it off a ceiling or by putting some kind of diffusing material (e.g. a tissue) in front of it.

The picture also suffers from many distracting elements, both in the back and to the left, as well as the left bottom corner. You can easily prevent this by emptying the table before you take the picture.

I like the overall composition and the textures on this one. I think a slightly wider view would have worked better.

I was expecting this theme, and I am pleasantly surprised by the way you performed it. I fear that some voters will think this one is too dark, but I love the lighting. I see some minor issues with IQ (wrinkled shirt, some noise in the background), but nothing that bothers me. Great job. 9

Nice idea and a crisp and clear image. Would have liked it better if you had put a little more effort in composition and setting. A little more beach related for instance.

I like the detail and the texture here. It is probably a tad too dark for the DPC crowd, and I personally would have liked to see a slightly deeper dof. Nice overall result though.

I like the setting and I can see it's been setup with care. I think it is a bit dark overall and it seems to have a reddish cast on the right. Furthermore, I am not too fond of the crop on the right. With circles, I either think one should leave them intact or crop them rigourously. Cropping of a small part of a circle makes me feel something is missing, but maybe it's just me.

I like the idea, and I like the fact that the kid seems to be taking a pic with the bread. I think much could be gained by improving your composition though. There seems to be no specific reason for the square crop here, whereas the upper part of the image has no function wahtsoever. Using this composition, you place the eyes in the center of the picture, rather than at 2/3, where they would fit better imo. On top of that, you crop off both hands fairly tightly, as well as the reflection of the bread. Why not take the bottom of the bread as the centre of your pic, creating symmetry, with the eyes both on 1/3 and 2/3 of the picture? Or crop this one to a landscape pic, in the meantime getting rid of this disturbing OOF crum in the front and the empty space above?

My favorite from this challenge, espcially since it is both an ad for the marker and an alternative take on the challenge through the text. I nominated it for an OOBIE award.
