Keeping cool, 40's style by jab119Comment: Beautiful shot-- nice use of sepia and negative space to create a very interesting photograph. I particularly like the motion-blur of the blades; it creates a nice sense of motion, almost as though they are lost in the breeze. One of my favorites of those I have seen... very nicely executed. --10 |

Way Back to Schoolby DougPazComment: An interesting subject... the sepia seems rather dark and drab, though that could probably be fixed with a few post-shot adjustments (if they were allowed!). |

Another Day Gone ...by nathaliedooComment: Beautiful image... natural framing provided by the tree is especially nice. Seems like a bit of a stretch for the challenge, though. --8 |

A Seaman's Chartby jmark53Comment: Nice image... definitely hearkens back to another era! Composition and placement of the sextant works pretty well for me, but the lighting (yellow cast) is just a bit too much for the shot, in my opinion. Focus on the stopwatch seems a bit soft, as well. --7 |

Golden Yearsby KonadorComment: Truly beautiful image! I especially love the rich colors and subdued tones-- it really creates a mood suitable for the subject. --10 |

Misty Days Gone Byby JackoComment: Nice approach to the challenge... Makes the viewer think about the past rather than simply being shown something from the past. I love the dreamy effect imparted by the combination of mist and sunlight. --9 |

Contemplationby dsidwellComment: Didn't get to see this one during the challenge, but I like it a lot. Low-key B/W is perfect; I also like the incomplete crop and the expression on the girl's face... nicely done! |

Inside a Glass Looking Out at Party Glitterby cosmichaikuComment: Critique Club Critique:
You have both met the challenge (quite well, in my opinion) and created a very interesting abstract in the process. I particularly like the use of a fairly shallow depth-of-field placing the center in-focus while leaving the balance of the shot blurred. Combined with the ripples in the glass, it serves to draw the viewer into the shot.
A few things to improve (as always, my opinion only!):
>Perhaps reduce the contrast somewhat, particularly on the confetti in the center of the shot. The strong contrast seems a bit out of place with the softness of the periphery of the shot.
>I agreee with one of the comments made during the challenge that a shorter, less specific title would better suit the abstract nature of the shot. Perhaps even something like "kaleidoscope"
If you have any questions about my comments or would like me to elaborate further, please let me know!

Togetherby jimmythefishComment: Beautiful shot... and a nice approach to the subject. In spite of the fantastic tonal range, I'm not certain B/W was the best choice given the mood of the shot-- perhaps full-color or some variation of a sepia-toned shot would have imparted a stronger feeling of warmth and love. Just my opinion, however, so take it for what it's worth... --9 |
