boundby MephistoComment: Stupendous, sinister, categorical photograph. Almost, dare one say, Mephistophelian. Message edited by author 2008-05-14 19:35:42. |

Old Town Auburnby jdannelsComment: Oh man, I had no idea about this from the thumbnail. You really understand black and white I think Joe - shoot more of it. Now. :-) |

monopodsby nixterComment: Great shot Nick; did you have the nerve to try for one from the front, or was it just not working from that angle? Nice seeing, nice framing. |

odd one outby hghaleComment: Rather bizarre. Too small, oddly lit, the cropping is of course also odd, and a sense of over-sharpening and many jpeg artefacts. One might almost think this had been done on purpose ... |

Lincoln Cathedralby ShugPugComment: Quite like the effect of this - there's enough variation here to keep the eye from moving straight on. Perhaps not enough to really entrance, however: there's no sense of real sharpness to it, no sense of texture, which might have helped your cause. |

Odd way out.by meneleComment: In purely technical terms, I think you'll suffer here for a complication of composition. The light (and therefore shadows) is a bit harsh, particularly in the way it reflects from the coloured pill, and the seemingly random angles of the white pills have no harmony to their arrangement. Artistically - well, it comes across as a very simple statement, very contrived, and lacks much subtlety of message, for me. But I'm not known for my ability to second-guess the voters, I suppose ... |

Sidewalkby LevTComment: I like this shot - but I really don't like the processing; my first reaction was 'why has this tea-staining effect been added to this?' and only when I read the comments did I even consider that sign. me no see the point. |

Homeward Boundby BAMartinComment: Conceptually, I like the way this verges on a field of high contrast lines in no regular order; it feels reminiscent, in that sense, of old-fashioned newspaper photographs - you know, the ones that consisted of collections of dots of various sizes. Mother has grace in this image, too - contrasting in its own way nicely with the obvious viciousness of the hunt. |
