Poor thing, I hope they/you got it back in the water - it doesn't look so much like an old and dieing animal. My own immediate reaction would have been to get yourself down to his/her level to shoot: from this point fo view, I think this shot becomes more about people's reaction to a beached animal than about the animal itself. It's a good photo, the omission of people's faces adds a strong element, and exposure control is good.

Nicely done - especially your framing. I get a sense of dissociation between the figure and the background that is a little unsettling - it's simply the depth of field, of course, but it has the effect of making her surroundings feel simply like a backdrop perhaps, rather than a world she is involved in; her berlin 1930's make-up set aginst the nicely ordered georgian architecture perhaps adds to that feeling too. A nice piece of work however, and that point is more interesting than troubling.

Pretty good, but your dodging and burning are not exactly subtlely done, and to my eye make the image just look like it has dark blotches across it. I don't think you've taken the highlights far enough really - the tonality seems really quite grey to me. More contrast throughout the two figures would really add a sense of depth to it, and more detail, and there is certainly room for that without blowing the highlights.

Excellent capture of light and texture. Compositional elements are excellently controlled - you've made the square crop work well, which is not a straightforward thing. I like it. I'd perhaps have taken the contrast a bit further myself - to make more of the difference of those grey tones.

Great detail, fun, light. I really like this as an entry for this challenge, although i'm afraid the lack of face is going to hurt your score from amny voters. It displays an engagement with his environment, an insouciant absorption that is well communicated. Nice shooting, and I hope it does better for you than I fear it might.

It's difficult, I think, with this kind of shot, to make the dcision about quite how much environment to include, and quite how much 'portrait'; I think you've struck that balance pretty well here - thanks to your capture of detail. The added mystery of precisely what activity is going on here adds interest, and the sense of brightness without over-exposure is good.

An interesting moment, although the light is pretty nasty for a successful shot - that glare and haze need some treatment to bring out the dynamic of the scene I think.

Don't get much sense of involvement from this - of motion, drama, anything: there's nothing here that wouldn't be better shown by a static shot of the car in the pit.

Whilst I'm sure you'll be hammered for the lack of a human being, I like this shot very much personally. I wish you'd been able to find more contrast between the water and the hippo, though - but the clarity and the detail are excellent.

Good work - tells me something about this man, for the inclusion of his world.
