Computing Pi

Here I see a fairly straightforward communication of what pi is and its function in calculating circles. To that end, it succeeds. It is a straightforward point of view, straightforward composition and focus, etc. If you want to go beyond the straightforward, perhaps some more mysterious or dramatic lighting may be in order, or perhaps a different perspective could show me even more about pi such as it's "essence" or even "spiritual" nature. Even just putting this in black and white might hint at such things, as color seems to play a very small role here. Good luck!

I wish it were a bit sharper, but I think that pi is very present here. You found an excellent object to communicate pi and extend even further into other geometry.

Pi and Some More Pi

Good eye for pi! (hey that rhymes...). I see pi represented by the rails, and to this end this photo does what it sets out to do: show us the pi symbol. I wish it would take me further, though. Perhaps through lighting or different point of view you could take the next leap and show me that we can't escape pi or that some mysterious thing about pi makes it pervasive around us. But I'm going a weird direction. Sorry. I like this shot, especially the tones and grainy nature of it.

Really nice point of view here. By using the dial as a circle, I do get a feeling that pi (and math in general) can be found all around us, even in every day objects like this. To that end, I like the color, though I don't know why, and your composition and cropping is excellent. Nice work.

Time For Pi

Fun idea. With the watch, your image communicates to me a connection between time and pi, though I'm not sure what that connection is at this point, except that pi is on the watch.

I'm sure I'll figure out the third one soon... Anyway, I like this photo. The lines on the mill stone let me know that you are communicating radii here, and the bench is a nice touch. I can see pi at work here. Nice tones and focus, too.

I originally gave this a 7, but I'm bumping it up to a 9, because I keep looking at it. I think it's clever and demonstrates pi very well. Not only that, I like its whimsy, and the lighting and composition are marvelous. Nice work! Hey too bad they're not pecans. We could have had pecan pi!

A Matter of Pi

Nice work here. I love the instruments, all geared up to something with pi. Well composed and cropped, too. The colors don't seem as sharp as they should be: there appears to be a yellowish cast to the image as a whole, but I really enjoy how this image celebrates pi.

Stonehenge

My ancestors came from Exeter, which is, I believe, just south of Stonehenge. I like this photo because this site uses pi in at least two ways: we all know that it is circular, and successfully demonstrate pi in a few of the rock formations. I like the high contrast, which enhance the pi sillouettes, and the clouds above are a wonderful source of mood.

The circles of varying degrees of focus lend a sense of mystery to this photo, challenging us to think beyond the photograph to the essence of pi. In this regard, the title doesn't help much. But the tones and colors help and slightly off center cropping is a nice touch.
