Wonderful Shot Jeremy. I hope you don't mind that I used it as an example of superb animal photography.

These look like nematodes. Mmmmm. The backlighting is fun here, but it does make them look like microscopic creatures for some reason.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I concur with all of the compliments below! This is a funky picture of a blue banana! Many folks below expressed their displeasure for extremes of what is probably post-shot manipulation, but I figure that as long as you pushing levels, you may as well go all the way! But not if you want to win, I guess.

First, from this shot I get a feeling of fun and quirkiness. It is well composed with the banana positioned very well in the frame. The extreme contrasts go well with the extreme feeling you want to convey. Turn on the disco lights and let's boogie!

As far as it goes, I can't see much in this image to fix. If you wanted a more "natural" look, I'm sure you fiddled with it enough to get such. I think this image is true to itself and with what it wants to be. It is nothing really profound, but for an engaging romp, this photo takes us there.

From looking at your other images, I can see that you are exploring new ground, and that's always a good thing!

I look forward to seeing more good work from you in the future!

Thanks,

David

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I certainly concur with all of the compliments below!

When I gaze at this image ("look" is too weak a word), I am filled with wonder and awe at the beauty of this flower. You've managed to capture its color, sure, but you've given it depth and context as well. The few hanging leaves in the background do a great job at letting us know in a subtle way that this flower was not taken in a laboratory. Well, maybe it was, I don't know, but it doesn't appear to have been, and that's what's important. The soft blue background really sets off the bright hues of the petals, and the lighting marvelously adds a sense of mystique and specialness to the whole affair. I also enjoy the point of view from the side, as it establishes a kind of "just came upon this" kind of feel.

To improve this shot--does it need improving?--you might try continuing the softly mottled blue background all the way up, though I kind of like the break my eyes get from the top section of the image--those "normal" colors really ground the photo in reality. The blue background does seem to have a sharp angle, though, that is just a bit distracting. The stamens may be sharpened a bit with their natural colors (whites and yellows?) coming through. In essence, the whole image may be so colorful that it needs some blahness and neutral tones to further enhance the striking colors that are present and tone down some of that power.

Well, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrell, now! Keep up the good work! I hope to see your work in the future.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I concur with all of the compliments below!

This is a fun image, made even more enjoyable with your clever title. What strikes me most is the point of view, right in front of the jelly beans, which gives us an up close and personal look at them. the grass and background help to enhance the colors and texture of the candies.

The point of view is original and gives a feeling as if we are peeking in at these jelly beans, or studying them extra carefully.

The title is clever, but the image can only go so far to connect with and communicate it. A few technical things might enhance your image and how it fits with the title. First, it looks like your focus is just a tad off, giving the jelly beans a spurious sharpness. The depth of field is great, and the grass and blue background do much in giving this image its pizzazz.

The lighting seems a bit harsh, even if the intention was for these candies to look as if they were in the sun. More interesting light might really enhance the feel and mood of this photo, though the current lighting is very nice for bringing out the bright colors.

This is an engaging image that I really enjoy. I hope you keep up the good work!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a really engaging image. I concur with all of the compliments below.

In this image, I see a blue flame melting something which also changes the color of the flame. It shows me that you have a good eye for finding color in original places and in unique ways. I like it; it gives me a sense of curiosity to know just what this is. It appears from the comments below that several people wondered what that was. Perhaps this could have been included in your title, though not necessarily so. I'm content to wonder, but others, it appears, may not be.

Very nice composition with the flame going in a diagonal across the image, adding a dynamism and making the shot even more engaging. The black void as background works very well here, enhancing the flame's importance. I'm not sure it's even possible for such a shot, but it would be nice if more were in focus, even if your aim was to give us an abstract communication of color. What we are perceiving is that color changes depending on heat, temperature, direction and substance, so it would be nice to know the substance after all, which I feel would not detract from your shot, but add mystery to it as we are given enough information to formulate ideas, but not answers. Wow. Hope that makes sense.

In sum, this is a wonderfully creative image that is engaging and fascinating. Cluing us in more to what is happening may help enhance your photo's power as communication.

Keep up the good work! I hope to see your work in the future!

If this were focused on the right things: the leg and candy instead of the metal jar part, this would be such a great image. Really creative and fun idea!

From the title, you suggest that this dog feels ill, though he doesn't look it. Still, there are clues in the many wrappers around him/her.

Nice work. This image, with its clues of gold and crystal, suggest that chocolate is enticing and something to be desired. The lighting could enhance this, too, if it were not so bright, perhaps.

Nice pattern here, suggesting perhaps that either candy can come in endless supply, or that it is mass produced in a mysterious (ala the lighting) way. The lighting is nice and mysterious, taking our thoughts beyond the image itself, though the harsh light right in the middle distracts me somewhat. Nice work.
