To the Lord & for those who have/do fought for our Freedoms.by vtruanComment: Greetings from the Critique Club:
This image is perilously close to being a photograph of someone else's work but the fact that the flag is juxtaposed saves it. It is an interesting juxtaposition raising questions about war, patriotism, faith. I think that the title is a bit unwieldy but that is a matter of taste. I find myself wanting to turn the image - to push the right hand side back in order to change the angle of view. That is reflective of the difficulty in putting the elements of this together and wanting a clearer statement from the image. Perhaps see more of the flag and less of the massive flagpole. The color and clarity are good. It's a complex image and one that you may want to revisit. |

burntby GinaRothfelsComment: Welcome from the Critique Club: This entry certainly meets the challenge, evoking the sulphur smell of a just extinguished match. The composition is good, if plain, although it would have been nice to bring out the color of the math heads still in the box. It appears slightly over-exposed and I wonder if the shadow of the box wouldn't have benefited from stepping back a bit. The textures are very interesting and add some depth to the image. |

Stinkby RegoComment: Greetings from the Critique Club: to begin with, this image obviously fit the challenge...it conjures up a smell, and a strong one at that. The image itself has some problems. To begin with I believe you have moved in too closely on your subject and lost focus. The overall color is quite drab and the shadows/reflections/noise on the curled back lid are very distracting. You might like to try the shot with some different lighting so that your image is cleaner/clearer and the overall effect more exciting. Better light would reduce many of the problems. |
