A Fixer Upper

Of all the sort of run-down "fixer upper" interpretations of this challenge, I liked this one the best. It's very jigsaw puzzle-able in its crisp lines and bright colors. Definitely the best light that house will be shown in.... :)

House in the fog

House in the fog

My only minus about this image is that I'd like to be able to see the ground a bit more. I feel as though I'm craning my neck upward to look at this, and can't look back down. Overall, the tones are nice, and the fog adds mystery. Nice composition as well, other than the ground issue.

There's something about this image that works somehow, even though the subject itself is not particularly exciting. The contrast could be cranked up a little bit more, but in general I don't know why I like it, but I do. :)

I'd have cropped the top some so that the horizon was higher. Took me a second to realize these were row houses. But once I did, that added to the emotion of the image. The birds are a nice touch.

I love the postcard feel of the border on this image, and the title in this case does add to the image. I find the branches on the right a little distracting but overall really like the mood.

I Found This Place First!

While this isn't necessarily the place YOU call home, I love the expression on the kitten's face and how the blue in the can picks up the blue in his eyes. And it's not too hard to imagine that the can is FROM your home, perhaps, or that the kitten is part of your family. It's a very "cute" (sorry) photo. :)

This photo creates such a timeless feel! I generally don't like portraits of people, but this really hits home with the "home sweet home" theme. Very well done! (Addendum -- the only feedback I'd give is to remove the sunglasses on the model on the left. They are a little distracting and do hint at the image being modern.)

Lovely portrait! I just want to add, after having looked at this photo again and again over the week, that this is definitely a great example of everything a photo in this challenge should be, in my opinion. The colors are rich, the composition is interesting and keeps the eye moving, and the title adds a neat personal descriptiveness that you don't otherwise get. The white sky on the right is a bit blown out, which is a peeve of mine, but I'm changing my score on this from a 9 to a 10 because I really hope to see it in first place! Well done! :)

I keep coming back to this one. The expressiveness in the puppy's face makes this photo work! Could be a bit sharper, the goose in the background is distracting, etc., but the overall feel of this photo definitely says "home" to me.

I like the sort of "calm before the storm" feeling of this picture. Originally I felt that there was too much lawn and it could have been cropped closer, but I think that would have actually lessened the interest. Feels almost timeless. Happy birthday! :)
