There is a lot that I like about this cover:
The title (mostly the way it looks). The rest of the text (i.e. WHAT you chose to write). The font. The placement of the text. The overall colour scheme. The background picture/texture.

What I don't like is the way the image is just sort of plopped there. For once, I would really like to see a border and/or different placement and/or no image at all.

That image just looks so out of place in an otherwise very pleasing book cover design.

I am a HUGE fan of the "Earth's Children" series, so I really, really wanted to love your book cover.

Sadly, though, I can't. It is very difficult to look at.

I find that the photo itself is harsh (although the owl is a real stunner!), but then having so many different bits and pieces of font, in different colours, none of them standing out properly from the background all just add up to something I can't enjoy viewing.

I love the owl, I like the composition. Your choices of text (i.e. the words you used) were rather good - maybe with some different processing and a lot of font-tweaking this could turn into a great cover.

I doubt I'd even give this book a second glance. The topic is obviously pretty grim. It has a single short word on it - TRASH - and that word just sort of sits there (e.g. boring, flat font, nothing else). The image is a little dark, dull and certainly depressive. You are offering me nothing at all to pique my interest.

I bet if this was a book, it may very well be a highly informative or even important one, but I'm afraid you lost me as your reader.

Brave choice, and a pat on the back for that.

Having multiple language/spelling mistakes in so very few words and on the COVER of a book is something I can't forgive. I'd never buy that book, sorry.

It is a pity, though, because I like your idea. I like the simplicity of it ( a lot). I could really imagine this as a book cover - minus the mistakes and minus the dust bunnies.

I am ever so impressed by your dedication!

One thing that would have helped you hugely is an eye-fi card.
You could set it to automatically upload to your laptop/iPad/phone, and place it where you can easily see it. Then you just have to wait for a few seconds for the photo to show up instead of trudging down the hall.

This doesn't feel much like "selective desaturation" since there is still SO much colour going on, so many different colours, and in so many places.

I do like the wall and the very interesting door, though.

I find it disappointing that the edges of the cup were selected messily. A pretty easy job and really should be done to perfection.

Just in case you truly couldn't get it perfect, I'd be happy to teach you how if you like.
