Heh. The pawns look like penguins. I like the composition. Maybe try more contrast and more saturation to make it dramatic.

Good concept. The reflected bright dot near lower edge is distracting. Since this was advanced editing, I think you could've cloned that out. Try a little more DOF on the candy wrapper at right. It's a bit blurry.

Not exactly a proverb, but an interesting photo nonetheless. The shadow on the right part of the computer screen is distracting, but your composition (curved page, keyboard, and screen forming foreground, mid ground, background) is good and so is your DOF.

You seem to be going for some kind of grunge look, but the image doesn't tell any kind of story. Why would a measuring cup be in a grungy environment? Your image doesn't provide any clues. The composition doesn't provide interest either because you've given equal weight to the foreground and the background.

Needs better definition of the edges of the bulb to visually separate it from the background. A black card held on the left might've done the trick.
