Drive-By Shooting by Brent_SComment: At first I thought the car had to be blazing through that tunnel to get that much motion blur in 1/3 second. After estimating distance and doing some math I calculated that the car was going just over 40 mph. Still maybe a bit fast going through a tunnel.
From my perspective I estimated about 20 foot of motion blur in the frame. At 1/3 sec shutter that would be 60 feet in 1 sec and 3600 feet in one minute. I multiplied that by 60 to get the distance in feet covered in one hour at that estimated speed and then did a feet to miles conversion.
1/3 that 20 feet = 60 feet per second
60 feet per second x 60 = 3600 feet per second
3600 x 60 minutes = 216,000 feet in one hour
216000 / 5280 (number of feet in statue mile) = 40.91 MPH
Don't mind me I'm a math geek as well and it's fun! LOL. So is that the speed limit through the tunnel...40 MPH?
BTW, the photo is fantastic and added as a favorite. Congrats on your Blue! |

Ruthby gerdaComment: Well done. The muted tones and composition make this entry shine along with the young boys magnetic smile and personality. 8 |

New Years at the Needle!by Dr.ConfuserComment: I love Seattle. Lived there from 1986 to 1988 while in the Navy. Awesome capture, but the red border clashes and is very distracting. This shot could have stood up well on it's own without it. |

Exodus to the starsby Yo_SpiffComment: Fantastic shot Steve. I loved the colors and patterns, not to mention the excellent perspective. I gave it a 7 and feel that is a bit underrated. Considering it's a Best of Challenge it's definitely one to be proud of.
You've done well with that A530! |
