Hardwick Old Hall, Derbyshireby alpharichComment: I'm guessing you used "Shadow/Highlight" on this one. Nice composition. You might try adding more mid-tone contrast to take a little of the "flatness" out of the image. |

A window framedby GautiComment: The content within the window is very, very good. Everything surrounding it is drab and low contrast. You might try three things: 1-Make a Levels adjustment throwing away the few pixels at top end but use masking to bring them back again in the image (that would be in the window) 2-Use Selective color to adjust both green and blue to make those colors stand out more. 3-Use 'Selective color' to select the green ivy and add a 50% greyscale overaly layer, and paint in lighten mode at about 20-30% to bring out more green in the ivy. You might like the result. |

Window Dressingsby cheegirlComment: Very low contrast in this image. It is worth trying levels and mid tone curves adjustments to see if you can bring out better contrast without sacrificing tonality. Tough to do with some black and white images but probably would work very well with this one. |

Vintage Deereby DrAchooComment: Congrats on another great score and placing with a typical Oregon springtime scene. After processing the clouds to make them more dramatic something you can do to fix the remaining blown out areas like you have in the middle right of the frame is to lightly clone at about 20-40% from another non-descript area of the sky. It is amazing how well it takes care of blown out sky and blends in well. Try it, you'll like it. ;) |

Yashica Manby annahComment: Beautifully done sepia. It was close but yours could just as easily got the ribbon over the B&W in 3rd. Both are incredible and technically superior images. |

Anno 1870 by AnastasiaComment: Wow... what a spectacular image. The technical quality is incredible. The brown tones and muted green with the highlighting and the dramatic sky creates a great composition. |

Glamby AnastasiaComment: You are a master of portraiture. Your command of lighting, especially in one as difficult to light as this, is nothing less than astounding. Your strict attention to technical excellance is the strength of this composition. Like in this case, what you put into your portraits is often so subtle, so good, and yet so natural that DPC voters often overlook it. We are just not that sophisticated. We often look for funk and flash. ;) Message edited by author 2006-04-24 04:48:35. |
