I am shocked you have not got more ribbons before. You have submitted some incredible images to DPC and this is not your best.

Kudos to you and all of your work.

Anyway, congrats on your first ribbon and a blue one at that!

One of my personal top three for this challenge.

Tones are good but what sets this apart from other portraitures in my opinion is how the DOF is set such that your model's entire face and only the face is highlighted. Outstanding work.

This image obviously did not convey the sense of complexity to most voters and that was why it was voted so undeservingly low... as was true of most images submitted of people in this particular challenge.

I liked the way you composed the picture and it has decent quality so I scored it a 6. Overall, it is a good picture.

I made no comment on it during the challenge but if I had I would have made two suggestions for improvement...

One, shoot at a higher aperture for greater DOF. That way all the hair on your daughter's head would be in sharp focus. I don't think going the other way around with the shallowest DOF possible focused off the eye would have worked as well, but that would be worth a try too.

Two, either shoot her further from the wall or use your photoediting tool to make a smooth white background. The mottling in the background is a little distracting.

Thanks to all for your very kind comments and generous scores. Now if I could just figure a way to get a blue one... :)

Slot canyons are fascinating and sometimes dangerous places to photograph.

A couple miles from this location is Lower Antelope Slot Canyon. 11 people on a tour got trapped and drowned during a flash flood there in 1997. Where I took this picture I was told that the week before a flash flood came through and raised the floor level by 5 to 6 feet! Both events are unusual, but do happen.

Beautiful content and framing. Exceptionally high technical quality. Detail is particularly outstanding. I looked up other images of the Hall of Steel on the Net. This one is infinitely better and certainly one of the top images for this challenge. Congrats on a great image.

Blue ribbon material for sure. Great complex of lights, color and individual window lighting. The clarity of the sunset is the icing on the cake. Great job!

This idea is similar to my own submission for this challenge. It looks like your camera was unable to capture the image properly under the low light conditions of the cavern. Detail clarity and subtle color distinctions got lost. My camera has trouble with that too. I suspect this looked a lot better in person.

Good idea and intersting colors but the general low technical quality of this image hurts it.
