Nice image, better than mine which recieved zero comments as well during the challenge! I agree that at first glance, I'm drawn to the texture of the fence. If this was advanced editing, I think an curves adjustment layer(choose color negative) of the image after it was inverted would help bring out the eye (would need a mask of course...advanced editing rules I believe). Don't know for sure without trying. I gave this shot a 6 during voting.
