Stock photography 101by nico_blueComment: Looks like the paper isn't perfectly level... I know that's really nitpicky but it stands out in a shot like this. Everything else is really good and you're still getting a great score from me. |

Narniaby Blue MoonComment: Taking another look at it and WOW. It still stuns me. This practically cries out for a print to be made. |

Life entombed bokehby snafflesComment: At first glance this picture seems to be about death, as green things die in ice, but it's neat that these aren't just leaves but needles of plants that stay like this throughout the winter. Good concept - I do think that it probably wasn't appreciated as much as it should have been. |

Emergingby levyj413Comment: I gave this a 9! I just loved how it visually captured the "mystery" of life. I really admire your concept and the work that you put into it to make it happen. Message edited by author 2006-12-13 01:21:26. |

Why The Long Face?by jimnessComment: Ah. Didn't understand why you'd choose that as the title until I saw "Jokes" in the upper right. |

Any Minute Nowby JuliBocComment: WOW. I just commented on a shot for having a great example of selective desat and I wasn't expecting another wonderful example. Great job. |

A quantiy of fine silk & other goodsby fredandaudComment: Wonderful title... at first I thought you made it up as it sounded "period" but then I saw it on the poster after looking again. It really emphasizes how chilling it is that human beings could be sold so unflinchingly as to allow the sellers to say "oh yeah, we've got some, uh, fabric and stuff too". Choice of black and white is almost essential here. The other choice would have been sepia - color just would not work for this historic feeling shot. I like how the first word "slaves" is partly covered up by the window.. almost as if to say that there is embarassment that such a thing as selling people could happen. I think the composition would have been better with more context - part or all of the window frame showing - but then of course the words could not be read, and I prefer to read the words rather than see the window frame. As a nice touch, it looks like ship rigging in the reflection? Keeps in historical context.
I hope that the voters do not penalize this shot because they think it is offensive - the act is offensive but my feeling is that this photo is not. The full value of the shot was very much something I had to spend time to appreciate. I did not get everything at first glance and I am afraid that many people will pass this shot by without thinking about it as much as they could. Good luck in the challenge. |

Nobody told me ... I was soldby names_amitComment: Haunting title. I don't care as much for the lighting - I like the shadows but I wish the subject was lighter overall. However I really do think this is a great photo. |
