And welcome to the wonderful world that is DPC. I expect you to find it as addictive as I have.

I didnt vote in this challenge but I probably would have scored it low. While your effects with the text (assuming from shallow DOF) is good, I find images like these to be a bit flat and boring. You met the challenge easily, but from a creativity point of view I find this image lacking. Its a picture of a piece of paper with text on it. Too simple for my tastes though those who commented on it really did seem to like it.

Dont get discouraged by low scores. My first 4 entries were all well below 5. This place is a treasure trove of information. Take your time, learn as much as you can and most of all have fun. Hang in there!

Greetings from the Critique Club -

I took a quick peek down at your comments recieved for this image. I was curoius as to what was left and I am pleased to see that you recieved some really good and well thought out comments in challenge. You actually got some amazingly detailed comments that I wholeheartedly agree with. Without going into too much detail the background issues, th epaper layout and use of DOF and the in general flat feel of light and colors are all reasons this scored low. And overall it just doesnt hold alot of interest.

Play around more with your editing, look over high scoring images and study what they have and do that grabs the interest of the viewer. Keep working at it and playing and your scores will go up.

Hang in there Michael. You are young and will learn fast. I expect that I will be commenting on your 6+ scoring images soon enough.

Greetings fro mthe Critique Club -

You have a pleasing image here. Onethat easily meets the challenge. Architectural symmetry is always a good fit here.

You have an interesting stained glass window that works well with a center crop. The image is sharp and in focus as well.

A shame that there isnt more visible color on the glass. The direct sunlight was probably part to blame for that. Advanced editing would have given you some leeway there as well.

Overall you have a pleasant image but one that lacks wow power that would have given you the higher votes from the DPCers. 5.85 isnt a bad score though.

You have some really nice images in your portfolio. Keep up that good work and I look forward to seeing your future entries.

I didnt vote or even loko at any of the images during this challenge. My first reaction to this was a little laugh. Creative way to get Pi in the image. So you easily met the challenge tahts for sure.

That being said your shot is a bit flat. The table is not really a pleasing aspect to the image and the bottle kind of blends in with it which isnt good either. Overall it has a quickly setup snapshot feel to it. This doesnt usually go over to wel with DPC voters.

But looking now at your comments recieved I think you surely got your desired reaction. I know comments like "haha" and "lol" are not technically really helpful but they are at least some insight that those people enjoyed your image on a certain level. Enough to comment on it even with those few letters.

Thats about it from me. Keep on shooting and good luck inthe DPL!

Tough score here man. I don't normally read the other comments before eposting mine but I noticed you had 11 and I was curious as to the response. You got some really excellent critiques in challenge and I will echo most of them here.

This doesn't really fit the challenge. At least not in the way DPC voters were looking for. The focus is wierd with some branches kind of in the middle being out of focus. And ultimately you have no real center of focus, no main point of interest which will not keep people at your image for longer than it takes to hit a score.

You have some really nice plant and flower images in your portfolio. This unfortunately just isnt one of them. Keep shooting and entering, the scores are bound to go up. Goo dluck!

Greetings from the Critique Club -

Your details are pretty funny.

You met the challenge just fine. The reflection in the water offers good symmetry. And I will also add that it is nice to se ethat your horizon is level. So many images have a crooked horizon that hurts the impact of the image.

THere are a couple of issues I have that probably led to a low score. The focus is pretty soft. There seems to be a lack of detail - or at least a lack of sharp detail over the entire image. It almost feels as though it was cropped pretty tight from a larger image. If the issue was camera shake I belive that bumping up your ISO to 200 or 400 would have given you a faster shutter speed and then negated any camera shake you would have had. And the next issue is just the overall interest factor. It's ok but really has no wow factor to it that would pull in higher votes. I think these two issues are what hurt you most in scoring.

I see you havent been at DPC long but from your bio you have the right idea. Take some time and look at high scoring images, read the threads, study image descriptions, read the how to's and even ask members questions. This place is a treasure trove of information and you can find out cool ways to improve your work to score better here at DPC. But moost of all always try to have fun with what you are doing. This place isn't serious. We are all just vying for virtual ribbons. But you can learn alot, and make some cool friends at the same time. And seeing you are on a DPL team tells me you are already doing that.

Keep on shooting and good luck in the DPL!

First let me say welcome to DPC! I expect you will find this place as addictive as I have.

Now to your image. I will be blunt. Its not good. I didnt vote in this challenge but I probably would have scored this low. The interest factor is low, I don't much care for the subject/composition. I understand the need for the long shutter speed but with it your trees got pretty blurry, probably due to any breeze. Just pretty rough all around. You did pretty much meet the challenge as you did catch a symmetrical design. Just flat overall.

That said, my first 4 images entered here were all 4 scores.

Again - welcome to DPC and I hope you have as much of a blast here as i have.

You have a nice and pleasing image here. The DOF is nice and the focus is sharp on what is supposed to be. The general composition is good too. It is cropped well and has a good balance to it.

I think a slight bump in saturation could have made the image pop a bit more. But probably the biggest thing that prevented you from scoring higher is just a lack of WOW power to it. It is nice and technically proficient IMO. But the interest factor is a bit low. For a flower shot to do really well in a FS it must really stand out, have an edge that makes it different. 5.8 isnt horrible mind you and the 2 faves can make up for alot.

Looking at your portfolio you have alot of great, creative and strong images. Keep up that good work and I loko forward to seeing more of your entries in the future! Goodluck!

Let me say this first that I really liekd this image in challenge. Great detail, great colors and a wonderfully interesting model you have here. I thin my only suggestion would be to have a tighter crop on the top to really allow her to fill the frame a bit more. She looks great, let her fill the image.

Thats all I have for you. Glad ot see this score above a 6 but I would have liked to have seen it score higher. Good luck in future challenges!

Well this will be short and sweet. You done real good here! Excellent usage of the expert editing and really clean PS work here. Creative, compelling and creepy. I don't really have a whole lot to say about improving this shot. You have created something more along the lines of a painting than a photo. This isnt a bad thing, but you have presented us a piece of artwork that I believe is what you wanted. Great detail, great lighting, great idea. The voters rewarded you well - though not to sure abou tthose 12 at the bottom - maybe just those anti expert editing nazis.

As usual excellent work. Keep it up man!
