$3 Apathyby CitadelComment: Hello from the Critique Club!
First impression is that the focus is off. It appears that your camera focused on the building in the background, and that is what made your subjects so soft. I also think a tighter crop would help pull the eye to the three people. If you removed some from the top, enough to completely remove the crosswalk light, this would dramatically improve the composition.
The B&W treatment works well here. Colors would be too distracting. I also really like the balance you captured with the two pedestrians. The almost look like they are marching in step.
I really think you have caught apathy going both ways. It is obvious that the pedestrians are ignoring the homeless man, but he is also ignoring them! That in itself is an interesting commentary on how people just go through the motions of their daily lives.
This really is a powerful picture, and I think it would have scored much higher if you had captured the viewer's interest by correcting the two items I mentioned above. |

Recycling Drumsby kijtComment: Hello from the Critique Club!
First off, let me say welcome to DPC! I see that this is your first challenge entry.
There are a few things to keep in mind when entering challenges on this site. First of those would be to ensure you use the full image dimensions available to you. This image is only 400 pixels wide, for this challenge you are allowed 640 pixels for your widest dimension. Unfortunately, a lot of people will deduct points from your score just due to the size of your image regardless of how good it is.
Another thing to keep in mind is the challenge description. In my opinion, this photo does not meet the challenge, and I believe your score reflects this.
As to you photo, this image does not do much to capture the viewer's attention or imagination. This is very important if you want your entry to stand out from everyone else's in the challenge.
I hope you are not discouraged by all of this. This is a great site to learn about photography and there are a lot of really good and helpful photographers out there. |

Once a Love, Alwaysby cassilda_terryComment: A very powerful photograph, however the fence in the background really distracts the viewer. With a more shallow DoF you could blur out the fence and pull the focus back onto the main subject. |
