A scruffy little bear he is and the right character for desolation. I would have removed his sign and taken him outside (away from those heathen lights) and set him up in a lonely place looking out for himself.

Not in favour of the large left hand side blackness. The black does not contribute bleek - it's just black. Otherwise, it does depict a desolate sort of feeling.

How about inverting the image. Negatives always seem to say irradiated to me.

Rather sad image.. or should I say an image of a sad young lady. Not appealing therefore it must be desolate, right?

Perhaps the best portrait on DPC. I come back to this image time and again. Very inspiring. Partly, of course, the dramatic character and whatever subtle processing you used. There is a story, in that hard face. You could build a book around it.

Heath Robinson, maybe. But the effect is good. Quite a little drama going on there. Macro photos often miss the drama because they focus on a singular suject. I prefer through the ants eye type of shots.

Nice work. Captures the colours and textures without diminishing the characters of these two firemen.

Aussie gardens can be wonderful. The floral photos you have confirm. Frangipani, I believe, or Plumeria - used as a Lei flower in Hawaii. I think we used to have this in our garden in WA.
