Lean GREEN cricket-eatin' machineby leko2kComment: I love anoles and I have taken many a picture of them. I think this photo meets the challenge well and overall is a well done picture. You have good composition and use of depth of field here but the picture doesnât look as sharp as it possibly could be. I would suggest using a fill-flash for pictures like this. It will really bring out the scales and make it look much sharper overall. I know that these guys arenât usually all that cooperative but it would also be nice to see more of his eye. I think this was a very good effort and I would suggest working on it some more using a fill flash and a shutter speed of at least 1/125 sec. I doubt you could use a tripod for this type of picture and the fast shutter speed makes a world of difference. I gave this picture a 6.

Just a Sunsetby jonallenComment: I think that as your title says, this is âjust a sunset.â It is tough to do well with these types of pictures in challenges because I think every one of us has taken sunset pictures and I am sure we have all seen some quite spectacular ones presented. Though I think you have captured a good one, as a reviewer I have seen my share of great ones so I have a lot to compare it to. The exposure in this picture looks good but I think the composition could be improved. I would either cut out half of the water or half of the sky to make either one or the other dominate. I think you have chosen a lovely location and overall have done a good job here. I gave this one a 5.

Very Very Berryby BitzComment: I like your use of color here and the composition is effective. I think you might have a bit too much depth of field here but it isnât too big of a deal. The main thing that I think could be improved is the lighting. It appears to me that you used the on-camera flash for this one. The reason I say that is that the lighting appears to be very harsh and unnatural on the berries. I think opening up the aperture and diffusing the light would help this picture a lot. I know that you might not have used the on-camera flash for this one and it might just be the harsh afternoon sun at play, but in any case I think you should try to soften up the light. You could place a tissue over the flash or make a diffuser and hold it between the sun and the subject to achieve this effect. I think that if you try something like this you will be very pleased with the results. I gave this one a 5.

Shades of Purpleby blemtComment: This is a very cool idea and I like the color and composition very much. The way you framed the memorial is very well done. I am wondering if the color was really like that or if it was done in post-processing? Either way the color is very appealing. I am not sure if it is just my monitor but the focus appears to be a little soft out at infinity. Perhaps a narrower aperture might have produced a better result, then again if the aperture is too small you will get a soft image due to diffraction effects which also could have been the case here. To me this is a powerful photograph and I would be proud of it if it were mine. I gave it a 7.

Many Colors One Birdby gowf67Comment: Very nice use of color here. I like the composition and the lines in this shot. The photo doesnât looks as sharp as it might be on my screen but it isnât too far off either. I think this meets the challenge well as color is definitely the dominant element here. I know this is an abstract but it might work better if you show more of the bird. There just isnât enough here to hold my attention for very long. Overall I think the photo is well done and I gave it a 5.

Virginia Redbudby AaronComment: I like the composition of this photograph. The use of color and depth of field are very well done. The background is far enough out of focus as to not be distracting, and the blossoms in the foreground appear to be well in focus. The exposure is very good here, I canât find any blown-out areas and the lighting is not too harsh. The only suggestion I would make on this photograph would be to try it at different times of the day. From looking at the shadows underneath the flowers it appears that you shot this one around noon. I would try it in the early morning around sunrise or in the late evening as the sun is going down depending on which direction the tree is facing. I think that lighting might eliminate the dark shadows underneath the flowers and could bring out the color more. Good job here, I gave this picture a 7.

Graffiti in the Sunby greenem2Comment: This is not one of my favorite subjects but I think you have done a good job with it. I think it meets the color challenge very well and overall I think the picture is well done. The shadows add a lot to the photo. I donât know if you planned it this way or not but they really help the composition and make the picture more interesting for me. There certainly is a lot to look at here that would be missed by the frantic reviewer trying to get through the whopping 300 submissions from this week, but I am glad I took the time to look at it. The more I look at this picture the more I like it. I really canât think of anything I would change about it. I gave this one a 7.

Natures Beautiful Colorby DianaComment: First, I think that this photo meets the color challenge very well. You have made good use of depth of field here and the exposure looks dead on. I like the angle at which you photographed the flower and that you picked a good specimen. The only real qualm I have with this photograph is the cropping. I think it might be more effective if the bottom of the flower was much closer to the lower right hand corner of the frame. The tight cropping at the top and the left-hand side of the picture are uncomfortable for me and I donât think the OOF areas to the right and bottom add much to the photograph. Because the DOF is so narrow here (and I think it should be for this picture) the stalk for the flower is barely discernable and the flower almost appears to be floating in mid air. You could stop down the lens some to bring it closer to being in focus but I am afraid this might bring out distractions in the background also. Different cropping can hide the stalk and make the composition more comfortable while keeping the DOF the way it is. I gave this one a 6. Good job.

The Color of Springby jimsappComment: I love peach flowers. Mine came really early this year. I entered a picture of one of mine in the cliché challenge if you want to check it out. I would probably crop that top branch out and try to include the tip of the flower that is going out of the frame. It might also be better against a colored background. The focus could be a little sharper and it looks like you are a tad overexposed on the top petal of the main flower. I think this is a good effort and with a little more work it could be a great picture. I gave it a 6.
