Natural Backlightby mattmungerComment: Great backlighting, but the subject is indistinct (not enough contrast perhaps.) I like the mood a lot, but the background competes with the subject enough to make the photo busy & unfocused.
SIMPLIFY! A different angle might help. I try to frame my photos through the lens,...but...even then I get photos that turn out differently than I saw them to be.
Still though...photography is consistently more accurate a sport than golf. |

Laughterby debbybrisComment: Grand Love-of-Life Portrait! I can't think of any type of photograph more filled with the heart of God than a child frozen in a laugh! So amazing! Such a blessing!
Emotionally, this photo calls out...10! Yet to be consistent with the principles of good photography, I can't actually grade it that way. The face is lit by what appears to be a reflector placed much lower than the face. This gives the portrait a mild effect of 1950's Saturday afternoon matinee B Movie a la Bela Lugosi, yet over-all the facial features are a little flat. Composite score 7 with a little man who is over-the-top! |

Fading Beautyby ChilibeanComment: I love this photo!
However, lighting this rose with a spot from above & behind doesn't appear to quite give the rose the same "punch" it would have if some of the petals were translucent. Try to set the spot just below the camera's line-of-sight shining directly at the bloom from behind.
This is a great photo for a couple's wedding album! |

Portrait of My Daughterby jencurrieComment: What a charming young lady! Sweet picture!
The highlights outlining the hair are nice & really set her off from foreground/background.
Personally, I would have enjoyed seeing a second back-light set lower to highlight more of the strands of hair. However, her hair appears to be thick, so I'm not sure how translucent it would be at any angle.
Over-all...Great entry! |

She is the type of model photographers dream of...a model that makes the photographer look good! Score that a 10. |

Just Turned Eight ....by LouiseBComment: You gotta be kiddin' me! Only eight years old? Wow!!!
Your title is most understandable since in the thumbnail she certainly looks eighteen.
Great High Key Lighting on an amazing photograph. I rate this a 10.
Get me her autograph right now since it will be beyond my budget in 10 years. :) |
