Very nice Candid, and very interesting with the (photo?) behind this guy. You really did a nice job here, and choosing to put it in black and white was a great idea! Personally I think it may have been more effective if you would have cropped off more of the top, possibly to right above his head, but thats just me. Good luck! - 8

This picture is very nice. I love your composition, and while I don't care for the blown out window, I understand why you decided to do it. Great use of natural lighting in doors! Very calming and nice photo. - 9

Great stop action, I absolutely LOVE the colors in this. This picture is really neat. The only thing I think would have improved it, was if you had not had the photo centereed... maybe to the right corner would have been nice? Just personal preference. Solid 9!

One of my highest for the week. I love the soft lighting and look on this girls face. The white clothing adds to the picture. I think this is a beautiful portrait! NICE JOB! - 10

First off congrats on your first submission... it's exciting when you get those first week's results back!

Composition - The main focal point is very centered in this picture, which usually isn't desirable in photography. I think had you moved the egg and silly putty somewhere else in the picture (rule of thirds) it might have made for a more interesting photo. I also think that the main subject could have filled the frame a lot more. As it is it doesn't do much, visually.

Exposure - don't really see anything wrong with this, looks ok to me.

Color - the colors are vibrant blue, very pretty, and you caught them pretty well.

Focus - your focus is really good. No problems there.

Background - your background is very distracting, not only is it blue, and competeing for attention with the intended subject, but also it is very in focus. I would have suggested, maybe something pure white to really make the blue egg and putty stick out!

Fit for challenge - all blue, what can I say?

Lighting - the lighting is uneven, and very bright on some spots. It's hard not having a studio, or the setup to take a good picture in. Believe me, I know... I'm at college

Wowability - I don't see much here... it just doesn't catch me

Final Comments - good job.... try the shot over, and experiment... it can be a real learning experience... and besides its digital, your not wasting any film :-) Good luck!

Hi Kosmikkreeper...
Composition - nice job placing the main subject in the corner and not in the middle. It makes for a much nicer looking photo.

Exposure - the exposure looks a little light on the ear and hair, but I'm not sure whether thats due to the desaturation or not... The earing looks very well exposed.

Color - interesting what you did here with the color saturation... I really like the way the earing stands out! Nice job with that. The only thing I would say is that the picture looks a tad bit grainy to me...

Focus - pretty good job on focus... maybe just a tad soft, but not much.

Background - like I said, i love the way you brought out the blue earing by desaturating everything else... Looks great!

Fit for Challenge - doesn't give me a feeling of blue, though there is some blue in it... It fits well enough in the literal sense of the challenge.

Lighting - I like the lighting here... the light spot on each bead is cute, and there are no obviously blinding flashes of bright.

Wowability - It's a nice picture, but it doesn't really catch my eye as much as a lot of the others. It's not the most interesting subject in the world, and I think you may have lost a few points for that.

Final Comments - overall not bad. It's a pleasing photo to look at, and its a good learning aid for those working with saturation etc. Nice job!

Critque Club...
Hi Jak! Before I begin my critique I want you to know that I admire your trying to take a fog photo for the challenge. Fog is very difficult and some people like it and some people don't. It can also be very hard in terms of focus... ok let me get on with the critique.
Composition - This photo includes a little too much blank space for me, although it follows the rule of thirds pretty well, my eyes tend not to go towards the dock. I think had the dock or rocks been moved down just slightly, coming in to the picture at an angle it would have been more effective.
Exposure - interesting... good blues, and with fog I suppose the exposure is good, but it's hard to tell. I like the fact that you can't tell whether its day or night, and I love the eeriness to this photo.
Color - Lots of different blues in here, but tends to be rather drab. I suppose thats what fog does though.
Focus - excellent focusing for doing it through fog! I like how the dock is definitely in focus, but a little soft to give the dreary feeling. Excellent job on that!
Background - The horizon is not visible which is cool, it's a very plain background, not much to say about it.
Fit fo challenge - great, makes you feel blue and cold which it is meant to do. Fits the challenge literally and mentally NICE JOB!

Wowability - although I'm not overly impressed when I immediately look at the photo... when you look more for some of the details it gets more interesting! Still a fairly drab and boring photo, but it comes across well.

Overall nice job, there are somethings you might try differently next time, but like I said, I admire you for entering a fog photo. Good job, and good luck with your next entries!

The reflections in the glass are slightly annoying, but I love the reapeating glasses, and the blue colors you have here... also Like the background. The lighting is quite bright at the top on the rim of the glass, but it's not a bad photo. Good focus, and very interesting the way you've done this. Good LUCK!

Great job of getting the patterns in the snow, with no hotspots. Love the flashes of sparkles in this picture. Did you use a blue filter or do that in photoshop. Nice job, looks like the stars in the sky are reflecting on the snow... very pretty. Would have liked to have seen maybe something a tiny bit more interesting... but it's a nice job. Good luck!
