| 11/15/2007 10:20:33 AM | Ernst Carl Gerlach Stueckelberg explains to Mr. Nobel the perturbation theory for quantum fields ...by gjumiComment: Ernst Carl Gerlach Stueckelberg, Baron Souverain of the Holy Roman Empire of the Teutonic Nations of Breidenbach at Breidenstein and Melsbach, professor of particle physics at the universities of Geneva and Laussane, solved at least three physics problems, for which other people got Nobel Prizes. When he got quite old, he used to say "we live too long". The legend says that his dog knew more physics than many people present at his lectures. |
| 11/14/2007 10:02:25 PM | The Cauchy boundary condition:by taseComment: Good title... Good rocks...
I have a problem with the patterns though... it must be a crazy ODE.
Everytime there's a challenge, I think what photo would I take. For this case, I thought of taking a photo of the sky, plain sky, no buildings, no other objects and subjects, just a plain blue (or gray) sky (if there happen to be a cloud or two, no problem, let them there). After looking at the photos in this challenge, this is the closest to my imaginary image. It's funny, because this is the opposite point of view, but I guess it conveys the same idea. So, it a sense, it conveys that people meet even when they take the contrary direction. It's a closed Universe, I guess...
What would be the idea? Well, maybe the emptiness of peopleless topless? | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 10/31/2007 01:06:54 AM | i c by boysetsfireComment: Nick, quite often I have to come down here to find you, but this down? They are sooooo crazy... And boring...
To those that think (for a want of a better word) that the camera should have been directed upwards, just look at the shadow which is taking the picture; it's the shadow photographing the face of the lady. So, what Nick is telling is that a shadow is taking a "from the ground up" photo, but you can't have that photo, just this one. That one you have to imagine. That's how I see this nice funny photo. To me this photo is a play, that immediately swept my anger at people who vote, then made me smile, then made me think. Now I'm laughing again.
Now this is for making a shadow the superstar for making the lady in one of her, I'd say, private moments, a superstar. Message edited by author 2007-10-31 01:13:10. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/31/2007 12:46:41 AM | Brazilby gjumiComment: Thanks to all who passed by and left a comment, voted, or just turned the page and ended to this photo.
I'm happy with the comments, 5 out of 8 had the word "interesting", and that's what I'm after.
The title just jumped on my head once I saw the photo on the screen; it refers to the movie Brazil by Terry Gilliam. There are a lot of ducts and pipes in the movie, through which people send documents and papers.
The photo itself was taken in Sincheon, a neighbourhood of Seoul. |

Let me add: (smart)... and daring. Message edited by author 2007-10-08 03:13:34. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Feet look like there's a man, a woman and a child, inferring creation. I wish I didn't read that it's a mother and two sons. The water waves give wonderful rhythm to this photo.
So, what are you trying to convey? | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/28/2007 02:27:28 AM | Holy Cow - A Cow Wash!by dharComment: So, there's thing guy washing cows on this particular day of his life. And then, there's this guy washing cows most of the days of his life. A day from the life or this mister, a life in the day of this mister. And then, he makes the DPC pages, competing for good scores at the sacred challenge. Well, I give him a high score, not because cows are sacred, but because the life of this guy is, his care, his usualness, but also unusualness at the same time, are. A good story.
But, your title tells me that you didn't want to tell me the story. I don't know, maybe you wanted me too pay attention to the cows being washed. But, I don't know, what's the big deal with the cow being washed? I'm not sure what to make of the title, but I know that I don't like it, it isn't mundane, as the scene is (at least there), but it isn't interesting or exciting either, in a sense of metaphysical or declaring a truth. It starts somewhere (holy cow) and it goes somewhere else (cow wash), and the guy with his livelihood isn't direct part of the title.
I think so. |
