Take OFFby PhotoRynoComment: Have no idea what that is, or if it's even fireworks, but I like the effect. Maybe a centred composition would have been more effective though. |

Light Up The Waterby GeneralEComment: Maybe should have cropped a bit more on the left. Some distracting elements in the sky and on the horizon. Selective colour emphasizes the fireworks nicely, but it makes the water look less attractive. Also, was this handheld? A tripod might have helped for better sharpness. |

Turn Leftby TygerrComment: Well done to locutus for noticing that the lights in this shot are from oncoming traffic.
My original idea was to capture both lanes of traffic - getting both red and white light trails. I actually spent hours waiting for exactly that situation (it was late - traffic had died down).
But then when I was busy with pp, I liked the crop that only had the white lights - the lines seemed much cleaner and simpler, and the whole "turn left" concept seemed enhanced by it.
Here is what the uncropped original photo looked like:
And I think I agree with the comments about rotating it. I just liked the shape of the light curve so much, that I didn't really concentrate on the angle of the signpost. |

Acidic enough to eat through metal...by TygerrComment: Thanks to everyone for the comments.
It could have been a better shot, but given the constraints of resources and time I faced on this one, I'm still happy with the way the image came out: I managed to shoot it just the way I saw it in my head.
I agree with the comments about the distracting texture of the towel and the slight patches of yellow in the top left corner. Unfortunately I didn't have much choice. That's the only makeshift white backdrop I could come up with.
That's also the reason it's a bit overexposed, and why I cropped it so tight at the top - all done to try minimize the texture of the towel showing up in the photo.
Also, I should have paid more attention to the focussing. That soft patch on the shoulder of the can really bothers me... |

Fun With Lights and Glassby freakin_hilariousComment: Originally posted by DrAchoo: I think you got robbed a bit. ;) |
Robbed. Definitely. This shot really tackled the challenge well. Because it's abstract, I think a lot of people simply dismiss it immediately.
But if you give yourself a little time to look at it, it really draws you in.
Never got around to voting on it, but I like it. Definitely would have rated it higher than it got.
Keep trying. |
