I see several problems that would have contributed to the poor score.

Foremost is the poor focus. Being a tightly cropped image doesn't help. A macro lens is really the way to go if you want to take pictures like this.

Pictures that don't make full use of the 640 pixel maximum dimension as a rule don't score well.

Very subjective, but I don't really like the composition. Putting the bee in the frame makes it more interesting, but detracts from the theme. But being only part of the bee is annoying.

I think you will find that there is too much in this photo for a "Zen" contest. A picture of just the two playground toys would have probably scored much higher. The pastel colors work well here. There also appears to be a small counter-clockwise tilt.

OK. It's somewhat blurred (use a tripod!) and flat. People also tend to prefer bright colors, so working in B&W here is a disadvantage. What was this like in color?

Effective use of desaturation. Mood is set well. I would have removed that OOF twig at the right before shooting, but the image is dark enough that it isn't too offensive.
