A sepia tone could have added some warmth in the photo and could have brought back the idea of sand. 6 | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 07/11/2003 02:02:41 AM | Imperfect Beautyby shareinncComment: I see what you tried to do here. Unfortunately, it seems to me that lighting could have played a better role in this picture. As it is, it is more on the dull side visually. Also, I feel the image would have worked a lot better if you had moved the camera to the right so the curve line created by the skin and black bgr could almost touch the left corner of your image. It might have been a better composition... Worth trying. |

Unfortunately, the wrap filter in Photoshop is a well known tool and its effect is unfortunately not that original. The ocmposition is nice though. Perhaps it would have been a great shot wihtout the effect. 6 for the effort. |

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I understand my photography can be weird or provocative to some on DPC, and I take this rank 4 as a great compliment from everybody.
To answer some of the questions, this is a real model wearing a latex catsuit, gloves and hood. The model can breathe through holes at her nostrils. I photoshoped them out to add to the "doll illusion". I did this photo for DPC and not for any other project. I wanted to experiment with the B&W and create a special atmosphere with the low-key technique and this model in latex. The suit is black. The background too. Big main source light on the left (6 foot softbox flash) and one backlight on the right.
We shot for 30 minutes. After that, the model was exhausted. It's not easy to shoot in this outfit, blind... and it can get very warm during these summer days.

| 06/18/2003 06:00:42 PM | Sports Illustrated by RiderGalComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Congratulations on your firt place at this challenge.
I must admit, I am not the best person to crtitique this photo. I personally am not a very big fan of sports photos, and basketball bores me to death. Never the less, I can still look at this photo and see its good points.
Technicaly, it's very well done. Excellent use of shallow depth of field, bringing the attention to the players in the foreground. The movemement of the players is very well captured too. You have nice obliques going on there, from bottom left to top right. This makes this shot very dynamic. It's quite a PLUS to have no other playres in the background. I assume they must be near the net... :-)
I understand you kept the crop quite large to acocmodate the title and all. But I personally think the crop could be a lot closer, focusing onthe two main players. They have such a dynamic energy glowing around these two, it would be fantastic to crop the photo closer to them. It would probably still work with a magzine title, like they usually do (cover part of the title with the models/players heads).
Nice use of Neat Image (you must have used it, right? After all, you shot at ISO 800... there should be more noise in there at 800. If not, then wow! You got a fantastic camera!). Very nice colors and all.
All in all, a well executed sports journalism shot. Message edited by author 2003-06-18 18:03:05. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/18/2003 01:08:04 PM | Bad Hair Dayby MystiComment: Hi. I love this "frame in a frame" idea. Actually, I was thinking of doing something similar, but didn't find a frame in time. I'm glad I didn't because you probably did it better than I would have. You're a very pretty girl and I think this is a bonus for the shot you decided to go with. Your expression is perfect. The pose is great. I have a little Photoshop Plugin that would have helped you int his photo to get rid of the yellowish tint in your backgruond while keeping the nice skin tones. It's legit with DPC, so contact me if you want it (it's free, but forgot where I downlaoded it). Removing the yellow in the bgr would have helped to add to the quality of your shot I think. Using Neat image just a bit more (if you already did) would have added to the skin as well with this kind of glamour shot. I love the hair! Bad hair day you say? Nha! It's perfect. On a final note, if you plan to spot edit your final shot later on, you could whiten the eyes a littlebit to make them stand out and the shot will be perfect! As it is, for DPC, it's very well done. I give you an 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

But somehow, it just works well with your pose. It seems to add some surrealism to it. You did a good job! 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
