Excaliburby BogiComment: I like the wide angle effect. Good placement for the subject as the background is very pleasing to the viewer. |

Partnersby timfythetooComment: While this is nice, I feel like I'm falling downhill when I look at it. The PP is pretty nice and adds to the impact of the photo nicely. Maybe just a touch to much gaussian blur? |

Untitledby OichComment: Welcome from the critique club.
Did you meet the challenge. I'd say maybe, there is a concept of falling, but does that mean fallen, or is one the action and the other the result. Thats really in the mind of the voters.
Things that dont work for me and likely hurt your score in the challenge is the tough lighting in the situation and also the very busy background which really competes for attention even with what appears to be some selective desaturation. The sky appears to have a bit of over processing and a touch noisy as well.
Overall based on the voters outlook and what I see I'd say your score is about where I would put it. Good luck in future challenges. Message edited by author 2008-08-17 19:11:29. |

After the Rainby posthumousComment: Not having run a critique in such a long time, I decided to dive in and do a few this weekend. First one I pulled. So here we go.
Does it meet the criteria......in a way I say yes, obviously the photographer has fallen and this is the frame that was taken from the ground. Did it meet what the voters thought for the challenge? No, but its outside the box and knowing the photographer now I'd say they will likely understand the photo.
Technicals on the shot. The stark contrast of the flower and the background(sky) work very well, however I wish there was a bit of reflected or fill light brought to the front of the flower to bring out just a bit more detail and perhaps make the color pop just a touch more.
The perspective and crop work for me as well.
Overall I'd say it likely landed about where I would have put it in the voting based on technicals and meeting the challenge. It doesnt stand out and it doesnt suck. I'd say it works well and with a touch of work it would make a cool print. In fact taking it to a paintery effect and a large print I could see it on the doctors office wall with a bit of blue sky and clouds 'shopped into the background.

composite1_sm.jpgby Art RoflmaoComment: This is good stuff here Art. I love the toning and the set in threes. Might I suggest building a 5x7 triptych out of this one as well? Would look awesome framed as one. |

Give me the ball.jpgby KronusComment: This is one of those times I want the camera to not think for me. I see you shot in shutter priority and as a result you have some bright spots that allowed you to lose the players face who is essentially the subject of your photo. I'd rather blow out some highlights and keep the players face. After all the action is nice, but if we dont know who did it does it really matter? Bright sunshine is a killer to work in with hats/helmets and such because of the hard shadows cast on the face. Manual mode and exposing for the faces is where I want to be.
Otherwise nice shot, nice timing. Although I'd prefer to have blown the distracting background out a bit more then done at F4.5 and I might have also shot it portrait or cropped it tighter. |
