Hello there.
Nice subject for the tryptic challenge, meets the challenge well.
Composition on each individual shot is done well, but I think the way you combined them could have been stronger. The placement of the strawberry shot is a little off, I think if you had not overlapped it with the other shot it would have improved the visual impact.
Technically, the strawberry image looks digital, could have been the lighting, but to me it lacks sharpness, looks like maybe there was some camera shake. The blender image is strong and works well and the finished smoothie looks like it was lit well, but the background is too grey and drab for such a subject, there is also a dark grey line on the bottom of it that is a bit distracting.
I don't think that is a "hair" on the bottom of the glass, it looks to me like one of those circles you see on the bottom of some glasses, but I can see how someone could mistake it for that, maybe a "cleaner" glass next time.
I like the frame, the colors are nice and compliment the images well, maybe a thinner outer border would be a bit better.
Over all a good job on the challenge, telling the story of smoothie making well.

First off, I want to say that this was one of my favorite shots in the challenge, it shows mastery of photoshop, composition and light.
As far as meeting the challenge, I think you pushed the limits of this one, most people were looking for two or three seperate photos.
Your composition is excellent, the positioning of the road, sky and men is right on.
Your lighting is awesome, good choice on the polarizer, looks middayish which I am sure created a washed out sky without it.
Colors are great, love the contrasting red and blue.
I like the title, suits the image mood well.
An awesome image that may have done better in a different/more suited challenge.
I recently arrived home from an Arizona trip, this brings back fond memories of the beautiful landscape, thank you. |

A little more DOF to get the lip in focus would have been good, if you couldn't get any more DOF then focusing higher up the bottle. with this angle, the lip really needed to be in focus. Great lighting. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Hello there, thanks for the chuckle!
First off, I think this is a great photojournalistic shot.
Definatley fauna with a great title.
The only thing I could add to what you already know is that composition wise it is usually better to have more room in front of your subject then it is to have it behind, kind of a leading into the frame instead of out of the frame. Otherwise I like the way you have composed the birds with the fence and the brick.
Good job on this challenge and good luck with future ones. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Hi there, I like your subject, I am sure it was very hard to photograph.
It has already been said, but the softness of this is the main distraction. Does your camera have manual focus? did you try manually focusing? it could be that the camera focused on the glass and not the jelly fish.
I like the lighting, no need to change it.
Compositionally, I think a vertical format would have been better, my eye is used to seeing jelly fish this way with their long tenticals.
Great subject for the Fauna challenge, good title too, definately has a mood to it. Good luck in future challenges. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

This shot has an emotional quality to it, I could see it along with a newspaper article describing elephants in captivity, but for this challenge, I think it is lacking. Most people were looking for a more natural representation of Fauna.
Your composition is good, as good as you could do under the circumstances. The bland sky is somewhat distracting, maybe if you could have gotten higher and shot down on them.
Focus is a bit blurry, a faster shutter speed to stop their movements may of helped with this if it was possible.
I like the title, adds to the emotional impact.
Overall a good picture that probably would have scored higher in the photojournalism challenge.

Hi there, I have admired your photography for a while and am quite humbled by receiving one of your shots for critique:)
First off, I love this shot, the flowers have a glow to them that is very pleasing to look at.
Your composition is perfect, the placement of the flowers are right on.
Your DOF and focus are right on too.
The one thing that distracts me is the background, it looks dirty, cloning now would do this photo wonders. Not sure what you could have done at the time, maybe a black sharpie.
Thanks for showing me a flower I have never seen and good luck in future challenges (yeah, like you need it) :)
Congrats on 4th place too!

How about leaving a bit of room between the top Challenge and the neg.?looks a bit crowded the way it is.
Maybe lowering the opacity in the rainbow in the ribbon too to tone it down a bit. Message edited by author 2003-05-01 16:59:37. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
