The first though that comes to mind when I see this and read your comments is "You shot this handheld?!" Haha...you deff. have steadier hands than I do.
First off....what I think could be improved upon; Well...to be honest with you there isn't much about this photo that can be changed to make it better. As stated in an earlier comment...I think a different perspective might have worked a little better. Maybe just shifted to the right a little..so the red lighted trees in the middle are a little less in the middle. That's really the only thing I can see that could be improved on.
What I like about your photo; Pretty much everything...Especially the lights:P Your depth of field is wonderful, the trees in the foreground on either side really brings the photo together. Everything is perfectly in focus and very sharp, especially for a night shot. Your composition is great also...The building is perfectly positioned in the background and it's beauty is really brought out by the Christmas lights all around it. A very festive shot indeed...
Overall...a great photo totally deserving of the score it recieved. Congrats...and Keep up the good work!

I feel just like I am flipping through a skateboarding magazine when I see your picture. It deff has the quality to be published in one of those "Best Photo's of the Year" issues. Anywho...on to the critique...
First off I'll start with what I think could be improved on. One of the major flaws of this image for me is the shadow of the photographer. I just find this distracts from the image overall. Other than that...there's not much I would change about your photo. The lighting is a little harsh, but there's not much you could of done about that since it was taken at night and all. Also, it usually is a general rule of thumb that if you have a person or object in motion, you want to place it at the beginning of the frame. That is to say...if you have a person running left, you want to place them on the right side of the frame. Although...I like the composition of your photo, it shows more of where he has been than where he is going. I think it works here. Which leads me to...
...what I like about your photo; I love the fisheye effect, it adds that skater "feel" to it. I like your composition, I think that the kid sitting in the background adds to the image rather than taking away form it like posted in an earlier comment. Your focus is great...especially considering how fast he was moving. The colors are wonderful...althouh I would like to see a B&W version...just for fun.
Overall fantastic picture...and I think that your score reflects this. Keep up the good work!

Mother Natureby jaxedComment: Reminds me of the shot I did for Single Light Source II...
I like the texture of yours. The face looks pretty freakin sweet with all the mud and jazz al over it. And the tear on the leaf adds a nice touch of symbolism to the photo. Overall...I like it |

Hey! I'm just out of the shower!by ZorbaTheGeekComment: Greeting from the Critique Club!
The first thing that I notice about your photo is the bird obviously, but then my eye travels straight to the upper left corner where there is a bright spot then to the upper right corner where there is a dark spot. This could of been solved simply by cropping right below the dark spot on the right. Also this would of placed the bird in the rule of thirds vertically, as right now he is about the same distance from the top of the frame to the bottom of the frame.
Other than a different crop, there's not much that you could of done better here. The colors are gorgeous, the blues and the browns work perfectly together to give that "feeling" of a cold wintry day. The focus is great although, as you said in your description, it could be just a little sharper. I personally like the DoF here, it makes the viewer pay more attention to the eye and head of the bird than to the rest of the photo. It would be interesting to see this same photo with a bit more DoF though, to see if it made a difference or not. The composition works here, but as I said before, a different crop would of helped a little. You have the bird in the right hand side, abiding by the rule of thirds, this works great. The lighting is also good, I like the bright part of the rock that is around the birds head. I think this makes it stand out even more and really emphasizes the subject of your photo.
I really really like this shot, taking photo's of birds can be a hard thing to do, but I think you excecuted this wonderfully. Congrats and good luck! |
