Lights of the Beyond

Fabulous capture! The B&W heightens the interest and the mood of this image. Not distracted by color we more readily drink in the shapes, textures, and objects of this shot when normally our eye would have been instantly riveted by the aurora borealis. The weathered look of the old barn and the grass blowing in what appears to be a strong breeze is prominent and gives the eye textures to feel. I also love how you also captured the stars in this shot which further gives this a magical and mystical feeling. The Northern Lights is beautiful, eerie, and takes on the appearance of something otherworldly as we gaze upon this scene. Coupled with the stars in the shot I almost think of the Milky Way is what we see adorning the night sky. Great capture!

Cold Comfort

What makes this shot good is the expression and body posture of this little gorilla. In those beautiful soulful eyes we see a creature in search of comfort - and we make a connection with that need.. He/she leans on the mother figure for comfort and warmth. The only critique I have for this shot is that the emotional & visual impact would be greatly improved if you had included the mother in this shot (specifically if you might have been lucky enough to capture the mother looking down at the child that would give us a sense that she is looking down fondly at her offspring).

Sunset Windmill

An interesting shot and composition. I like how you took this from an angle that has the viewer looking up to gaze on the main subject: the windmill. There are two things that I can suggest that would go into improving this shot. First, it would have been better to capture the full windmill so that it adds to our sense of height as we look up at it. Second, there is too much empty space which does nothing to add to the composition of the overall image - the clouds are nothing special in this shot, your main focus is the windmill and should stay on the windmill. Tightly cropping the shot to be a vertical one that has the windmill either in the center or slightly off center would add interest by giving us a greater sense of height, keeping our attention focused on the main subject, and the vertical aspect mimics & complements the height of the windmill.

Pass the Butterflies, Please

Wow. That is alot of Monarch butterflies! A very interesting shot of something that you don't see everyday. But I think there is 'something' missing to give this shot a little more 'umph' to strengthen the appeal. The only thing that I can think to suggest at the moment is a change in angle. This is a straight on level shot which does nothing to make the shot unique. I think if this was taken at a lower angle such that the viewer would get the sensation they were looking up to see this sight it would have been better for one reason. A different angle adds interest to the shot - one has to look up (an extra ordinary action in that it is something that one does not routinely do) to get the privilage of seeing this beautiful scene.

Winter blues

The hues on this picture are fabulous. The whites and blues come in crisp and clear so much so that I shiver from the cold just gazing upon it. The action of the water as it falls is captured so that it appears as a soft unbroken flow - a downy drift.

A Tranquil Reflection

A very calm, serene, dreamy capture that the viewer justs gets totally lost and swept up in. One cannot tell where the sky begins and the lake ends. They blend in so seamlessly that one daydreams as one gazes upon the boats thinking, "Do they sail upon the waters or do they sail upon the clouds?" Wonderfully composed and captured.

Horsepower

Great capture! The power and grace of this horse is well presented as it appears to run towards us at full gallop. Love the soft focus on the image it brings a delicate touch to offset the power of the action of the horse galloping at full speed. It also brings a dreamy surreal look to the image such that we get the sensation that we are observing the scene in a slow motion dream. My only critique is that I would have liked to have seen all of the legs for it would have strengthened the image in the sense it would heighten the viewer awareness of the grace and power in these beautiful creature.

I like how the flow of the river bends and undulates like a road that leads the eye directly to the setting sun in the background. A very calm and soothing image that enchants the viewer.

This is a gorgous shot! Love the warm hues of yellows and oranges that just radiate a warm and cozy evening spend watching over this scene of beauty. The geese in flight in the foreground and the geese in the background as well as those that appear on the water below just further captivate the eye with interesting things to drink in as well as provide a beautiful scene to behold. Wonderful!

There is nothing like Nature's fireworks - they are different and maginificent every night. Beautiful and bold hues here in those clouds. They appear like rolling sea of heat and flame as they travel across the sky. Nice capture.
