Daybreakby TuckersmomComment: Simple, clean and elegent in presentation. The dark background really helps the vibrant yellows of the flower petals pop visually. Focus and lighting are excellent. |

There's Comfort in Lightby sir_bazzComment: Simple and clean presentation. The colors on the little duckling are a soft yellow very much like the downy soft fur covering it's body. The details are lovely and sharp, one could reach out and feel the softness of that downy yellow. The simple spotlight shines it's attention on the main subject and keeps the backdrop and foreground dark which helps to call attention to the main subject by letting it shine in the spotlight. Not to mention the dark background really helps the duckling pop off the page visually. The spotlight also highlights the ground plan. And the rich tones of the wood only add to the rich and warm colors seen here. The only critique I have is that there seems to be a reflection of the little duckling in the polished wood that is a little distracting - I don't know what could have been done during the shoot to eliminate that other than possibly cloning that out in Photoshop but then it would be a question if it was legal or not. |

Rising Sunby AlexSaberiComment: Bold, brilliant and vibrant is the yellow hues found on the petals of this sunflower. The blue background compliments the yellows wonderfully. I love the level of sharp details found in this one from the fine details of the center of the sunflower to the dewdrops caressing the petals. The composition is framed such that we see only a portion of the sunflower against a blue backdrop and thus it invokes the imagery of a rising sun. I have seen this sort of composition before but the vibrant hues of this capture along with the water drops is stunning. |

The smell of Sweetnessby pumaComment: An interesting still life composition. Simple, clean and effective. The yellow hues of the tomatoes and the rose are brilliant, bold and vibrant. All elements visually burst off the black background and capture the eyes attention with their color. My only critique is that I really don't think you need the thin yellow border to frame this composition it is perfectly fine without. |

Sweet Spotby PhilipDyerComment: An excellent macro showcasing all the unique beauty and detail of this bee busy at work! The hues of the yellow and the red of the flower are bold and vibrant. Love how sharp the focus is on the bee you can see all the details of it's body the hairy torso, the legs, and some of the wings. At the same time the focus is so sharp on the front portions of the bee and the flower it drops off sharply as we travel to the back wing and the flower in the background. While that is not bad in itself it would have been great to have a sharper depth of field if not on the flower but on ALL parts of the bee at least including that back wing. I have to say I really like the details and color that can be found in the wings and tis a shame that the back wing does not have the same sharpness and detail as the forewing. |

Bloomin'by thegrandwazooComment: A very nice close-up of the inner beauty of a flower. The center portion of the flower is most interesting and the level of finely focused detail is wonderful!!! I really think you could have gotten away with cropping this one closer to the main focus which is the center portion of this flower. It looks like an abstract vortex that pulls us into the swirl of the green vortex, the yellow tipped portions and that unique star/spider shape that dominates the center of the flower. |

Butter is yellow, right?by dugparkComment: The dark black background really makes the warm hues of the oranges and yellows of this flower visually pop. Lighting on subject is good and really complements the flower. The biggest problem with the composition is lack of good focus. The flower could be in sharper focus such that more details could be seen in the folds of the petals and sharpness of the objects edges. Not sure how the title relates or compliments the composition. This is a good shot but for lack of sharp focus it could be even better. |

Capsicum lightby AnastasiaComment: Enjoy reading by natural vegetable light which will cast a soft yellow glow not that harsh white light:-) Very well done. I like how the stem of the yellow pepper flows flawlessly into the electrical cord that plugs into the outlet. The black background was perfect for this composition because not only does it help the yellow visually pop but it also helps with the imagery that this is a light source that is plugged in to give off light to chase away the darkness - and it is a most attractive lantern with a lovely yellow glow:-) Well done. |

Spring Timeby ArtanComment: Love the vibrant yellow background and I think you could easily get away with it be even more bold and vibrant. I like the title and how it plays to the visual pun but I think the choice of spring coils could have been much better. Stereotypically when we think of Spring we think of a renewal, everything is in bloom, new, and fresh. To pair the color of yellow which is typically a vibrant and happy color that pours forth imagery of new & fresh with something that is old and discolored brings done the tone/mood of the imagery. Had these coils been bright and shiny springs it would complimented the bright, shiny, and happy imagery that is associated with the vibrant hue of yellow. |

single roseby StagoleeComment: I absolutely love the hues of the yellow of the vase and the deep, rich, warm orange/brown of the background. These color hues and eye-catching and enchanting and really make the image capture the viewer's attention. The crux that brings this composition down a notch back into the good category is the fact that the yellow of the rose is poorly illuminated. All other aspects are well lighted and in wonderful focus, but the rose falls into some shadows and as such the illumination is not as bright as it could be. The rose needs to pop off that orange/brown background just like the vase does but it does not. If the rose was lighted better such that we could see the vibrant and rich yellows of it's petals then this composition would move from good to extraordinary. |
