Tribute to George Aultby instepsComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
So I went and looked up George Ault and his work because you made me curious. Realist is what best describes this and what I see of Ault's work. The play of light and dark of black & white is very moody in this piece. One can easily place themselves in this dark alley. The mysterious beauty of the way the light illuminates just enough of the shapes and path it is still dark and deep - it makes me want to run towards the light , get out of the alley. and rush indoors where it is bright and well lit. I feel there is an element of danger (real or perceived) as that I cannot see much of anything but darkness to the left. It is unknown for we/I cannot see thus it makes one want to quicken the pace. |

I love the bold golds and oranges of these maple leaves. It shows off the brilliancy of nature. I do have one small critique that I think will make this shot even better. The bold colors are very bright - almost too bright going to the brass side. It is my thought that it needs just a little more contrast in the shadows/darker tones to give it a bit more depth and richness. Just a touch (not too much) of contrast would add the depth dimension. |

The color and clarity of this lava flow is amazing. Just how physically close you were to it makes me wonder because I know from past experience the heat can be incredible. The detail in the cooled and blackened lava and the churning seas is fabulous. Nice capture of of the power of nature. |

Some write their 'voice' in journals or books and some choose to do it on walls. These walls certainly do 'talk'. Though I don't know if the one writer truly found 'a peace of mind within the shattered rooms' - all the other 'voices' seem to drown that one out. B&W tones are excellent and the composition is great. There are two 'views' here amoung the 'voices'. There is the windows with the view outside and then the closed and fallen door that leads nowhere. The mood overall in the composition is bleak and desolate. It makes one think of the 'spaces' we occupy or abandon. |

I love the colors in this one. The warm golds of the one house wall is a nice contrast to the gray of the next building. Not to mention it adds warmth to the scene where winter white blankets the ground. |

The Sinner and the Saintby GringoComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
There is just something quirky and captivating about these two wooden mannequins. The one that is the main subject in the forefront has this young look of boyish innocence. The one in the back appears more the full grown man. I can't help to equate this to Pinocchio. The young mannequin is the young Pinocchio - innocent in his outlook in life. Instead of his nose growing with each lie we have the tall shadow of the full grown 'man' he will become always shadowing him from behind. Or another way of looking at it symbolically it is the full grown Pinocchio looking at his younger, former self. The thoughts - could be sense of loss, regret or longing for days long past. |

The Space Betweenby njsabsComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
There is just something otherworldly and ethereal about this lady that it captures and holds my attention. The veil seems the barrier between the gossamer white and the stark black. I feel that if I dare to take a breath - in the space between the first breath and the second she will disappear like a ghost. |

Into My Armsby StagoleeComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
This is such a great example of minimilism - visual haiku. This is such a good capture but I think if you attend to three things that this would be even more stunning. First off, there is a lot of noise - I think it could use a pass in a denoise program to get it more 'clean'. Second, there is too much negative space off to the right that does not complement the composition. It also 'distances' your audience rather than bring them closer to your main subjects. I think that this would work fabulously with a square crop. Third may or may not be possible but if you have the crop space I think it would create a symmetrical balance if the two branches rising out of the sides are equidistant from each other with the bottom left corner being right in the middle of them. |

Love the simple lines and shapes representing in this abstract. Good eye to notice the rails and stairs could create such a study in line and shapes just by orientating it a different angle. I like how the zig-zag lines emerge from the top left corner where I then follow them down to the bottom of the composition...shame it could not extend to get those lines to travel to the bottom right corner just for some symmetry. |

Aloneby NeilComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
I love the sense of movement here where there is the motion trails of people as they go about their daily business. There are still some distict shapes to these people but they are darker in hue which helps us see the the more distinct figure of the lone man standing next to what appears as a star (flash of a camera perhaps). There are many ways to read this visual symbolism. There is always a bright star in a crowd. The 'star' is like that of a guiding beacon from a lighthouse shining and guiding one (ourselves and the lone man standing next to it) through the sea of people to a safe harbor. |
