Yours does this better than the average entry in this contest, but not incredibly well. Are they posed on a backpack? The shadow at the corners of the frame is distracting to me. Would have preferred the whole frame be exposed so I have a little better idea of my surroundings.

I don't quite know what to say about this one, except that the subject matter, the shoes, is almost lost due to the size of the photo. But you couldn't crop it without loosing the context... somehow I just don't think that this photo, while a good shot, was right for this format.

The lack of color is too distracting, IMO. Composition is average. Either do this as B&W or leave the color alone. Perhaps use shadow and lighting to tell the story. Also, the shoes are too neatly lined up, in contrast to your theme.
