Wrong challenge? Or maybe you were thinking, it (the spiked do) looks like a star? In a challenge where it would meet the challenge topic, I would probably cut out the negative space on the right with a square crop. It does have a jounalistic feel to it.

Did you use the flash for this shot Neil? To me it doesn't look like it. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe, had you used first curtain sync (all that us DRebel users can do anyway), you would have separated the pepper from the trail; I think that would have made it much more dynamic and the pepper would have shined (no pun intended). That's how I did this .

Hey Bill, this was one of my favorites in this challenge. I'm going to put in in my favorites (my first I'm ashamed to say - *note to self add more pictures/artists to favorites). Great use of desaturation, beautiful composition, should have placed much higher IMHO.

In order to make an interesting shot of a simple item such as this you should probably try shooting it from a different angle. Maybe lit from one side so that the stronger shadow you produce has a purpose. Also you may try using a tripod to make your subject as sharp as possible. I'm also seeing some noise which could easily be eliminated using Neat Image or other noise reduction programs. Hope this helps.

Great image. So good it doesn't even look real. It's awe inspiring even. OK, enough cliches. I'd love to see the original.......please.

Good one. I had the same idea using an Inuksuk (Iniut landmark) but never got to execute it.

Sorry but I have to give this a 1. I'd like to say something more constructive but the image just leaves me speechless. If this is an attempt to get the brown ribbon, you've figured out the winning formula I think. If not, please accept my apologies.

Very nice. I would have tried the shot from a different angle to avoid the shadow on the lower right. Maybe a little less tight crop also. And rotate so the house isn't leaning. Classic outport colours. ;)

More DOF would be better in my opinion. Personally, I think shallow DOF should be used, in most cases, to separate your subject from your background (and/or foreground). To me, it seems as though the entire serving tray should be your subject, as nothing on the tray itself stands out, particularly. Maybe if you had taken the shot, a greater distance from the cart, with a less shallow DOF, it would have been more effective.
