The bird seems a bit out of focus, and the challenge response would have been more strong by relaxing the focus on the bird and backing off. Then it becomes a beautiful and colourful jewel on a limb (branch) which reclaims the dominance of the composition.

The shadow loses the river and combined with the composition makes it seem like the rocks were what was being shot. Also, although I like that you took a chance and broke with the norm, without the title and lacking in any junction or 'branching' in the waterflow it just makes it seem more like a shot of a river rather than a river branch specifically.

Is stronger with the bottom cropped out. And too dark, could be fixed by overexposing (openiing the aperture more than the camera lightmeter says you should) one fstop or so.
