Wow, I knew I would get some negative comments on this photo, but never did I think I would hear things like, "Hope someone does the same to you to take a picture". Sheesh, that's pretty unbelievable! I mean, lets keep this in perspective here. While I love in animals, and I don't condone cruelty to animals, this deer is just that, an animal. And your wishing ill on a human being! Get a grip!
Anyway, I did not kill the deer just to take a picture. Neither did I drink the blood as I am not superstitious. However, I am an avid hunter and venison is a normal part of our diet around here. It's better for you than any meat you'll buy in the store. No preservatives, no additives, no growth hormones, nothing but free range 100% natural meat as it was meant to be. If you thought this was cruel, please understand that you are simply misinformed. If you want suffering, try visiting a slaughter house where commercial meat is processed. Those animals suffer 100 times as much. I won't go into the grusome details, you can easily look those up on the web. This deer was allowed to live a free and happy life, and when I harvested her, this deer was taken instantly with little or no suffering. Not to mention the fact that it is ABSOLUTELY necessary to harvest the deer. If we do not harvest them, they will become overpopulated and when the food supply runs dry they begin to starve to death and spread disease. Trust me, there is nothing sadder than seeing a heard of deer that looks more like a pack of wild starving dogs that look completely emaciated, many with sores on their body. Taking the deer is a necessary and healthy practice. Do some research, and you will see that what I say is true. If anyone condems me for being cruel, that is your right. But, you had better throw out all of your leather goods and become a vegetarian. Otherwise, your being hippocritical.
I am sure some, if not many, gave me a lower score because they were disturbed by this photo, and that's to be expected. But it is a photo depicting one of the worlds oldest superstitions that can be found in many different cultures. I would like to thank those that put aside their personal feelings and critiqued this photo honestly. Thank you. I definately learned a thing or two. As for the comment about the dress and a woman, heh, no it's not either. The man in the pic is me, and the dress is a camoflaged rain pancho. There is red in the pancho because it's a fall type of camoflage from sweden called swedish alpenflage. I tried to desaturate the photo so only the blood was red, but there were too many red tones (my skin, the coat, the deers fur, etc.. ) in the photo and I could not get all of the red tones out. I think it might have been a better photo had I achieved the effect I was looking for. I also tried boosting the saturation on the red, but left it out at the last minute. I wish I would have left if a bit lighter... so it would stand out more.. thanks for the comments everyone..
