Composition-Content
This is a lovely winter scene, the way that the canopy of trees leads you into the picture is great. The angle that this has been shot from is good, with foreground, middle and background interest. I think that cropping out the grey building would have enhanced the composition a lot, and provided better balance in colours and also given more impact to the red building. Cropping until the edge of the second tree on the left would have been good, IMO.
Background
The background (minus the grey building!) really sets of this picture, with the path of trees naturally leading you into thebackground, nice and easy!
Technical
Focus seems a tiny bit aoft on the bench in the foreground, I wonder if deeper DOF would have worked here. I think that you have done a pretty good job of capturing the true colour of snow, someone mentioned that it looked a little pink. To get snow pure white, you should do exposure bracketing, if your camera has it! +2EV for sunlit snow and +1.5EV for overcast snow, plus or minus to achieve the correct results. I tried this recently and was quite happy with the results.
My Opinion
I think that this is a very pleasing picture, a lovely quiet view of city life. I think that probably some of the voters didn't see this as a strict landscape, perhaps costing you a few votes. But, Congrats on a lovely picture and Good Luck in the next challenge. |

Composition-Content
The composition is good, nice and simple with no distracting information, I like the tilt of the notebook. However, I think that you lost most people with your brand of humour! This was such a difficult challenge, everybodys sense of humour is so different. I have seen entries before with something written on a notebook and for some reason they never seem to do especially well, maybe it's just not visually exciting enough.
Background
Background seems fine, looks a little dirty on the top right corner, or maybe that's just my computer screen!
Technical
Focus is nice and sharp, lighting seems OK, if a little flat, but I do like the shadows cast. What really would have helped this a lot would have been more contrast, easily boosted. Maybe if you had used colour pens, instead of pencils, then boosted the contrast it would have been better, lots of bright colours against a white background would have really stood out.
My Opinion
At least you tried, which is better than me, I totally copped out of this one! Good Luck in the next challenge

Its unbelievable that you could have got any 1s,2s, or 3s for this (something to do with the title?) By the way, I gave you 10. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Hi there, firstly welcome to DPC, I see that this was your first entry, hope that you have fun here! I love Thailand, spent about 5 months in the country, very beautiful place.
Composition-Content
Overall, your picture is very beautiful, with a fantastic sunset and lovely colours. The positioning of the tree is good, but I think that the lack of focus on the tree detracts from the overall picture, more focus on the tree and the land would have helped this be more of a landscape. In addition, I think that the road, or is it a pole could have been cropped out. It is probably very hard capturing a good shot while driving, but I think that you made a good job of it!
Background
The background here is the focus of the picture, eyes are drawn to the sky and wonderful sunset. I think that more land, possibly with a fill in flash was needed to add foreground interest. Personally, I love the use of silhouettes and I think that if you had got the trees in focus this would have been a great Silhouette picture.
Technical
Exposure and lighting both look great, you have captured the highlights in the sky and also the silhouetted land well. The colour saturation is lovely. I think that the biggest problem here is the focus and only stopping the car, setting up the camera on a tripod and then taking the picture could have sorted this out. One more small thing, the horizon looks a little tilted, maybe you could have corrected this in Photoshop or similar.
My Opinion
I think that its a really pretty picture, I love sunsets, especially intense ones like yours. Luckily, there are plenty of opportunities to photograph beautiful sunsets in Thailand, so maybe we will see some more in the future. Good Luck in thenext challenge and hope that this helps you. |
