Color noise is probably not going to do too well in this challenge because it doesn't look as appealing as the grain film gives you. Next time, if you want to try this again, select "monochrome" under the add noise filter. That may give you a better effect.

A good subject for grain, I think the vertical filter is too bad.

A good subject for grain to enhance, we think of mass transportation as being dirty or gritty. But where is your grain? I hold the screen 6" from my face and I still can't see it. I was hoping for some serious grain, and I think you'll see the winners will be clear in their application of the texture.

Well, I give you props for not being chicken with the grain. It's too bad in the way it was applied by the filter. Why for example, does the horizon to the right of the boat have two textures of grain? It looks the same to me tonally, it should have the same grain. The top 1/6th of the sky is the same. Otherwise the subject is an appropriate one for grain to enahnce.

high key images are hard with grain. Natural film grain is less apparent in whites, and in that, I think you mimic it well. I was going to ask what the grain was adding, but I think it does add texture. It doesn't enhance a mood, but works as a visual device. Too bad this isn't in the light-on-white challenge.

Darling portrait, not one, however, where I think grain is adding anything. I'm thinking grain adds a feeling of moodiness, melancholy, nostalgia or antiquity. This little pixie isn't giving me any of that (and she shouldn't). I do see grain there, but I'm also looking for serious grain for my top scores. I'll give you a neutral 5 which winds up not helping or hurting you much. Takeaway: she's a cutie.

The sky is nice and angry, but I think its the high contrast rather than the moderate grain which is adding the mood. I had it as a 5, but I'm bumping to a 6 for now. You do accomplish something here, but you just aren't blowing me away as a picture I would point to someone and say, "this is a great use of grain". The composition and placement of the horses are nice.

It seems that the "noise" is a natural texture of the pear. I was looking for something more dramatic. However, to comment on the rest of the picture, the lighting is wonderful, the subjects are nice for a still life and the colors are subtle, yet contrasty enough for some oomph. I'm just not sure this is a good grain image. Even if you were to up the grain, would it be adding or detracting from the subject? I'm just not sure pears need grain.

A good subject for grain, but I don't really like the superstark white behind which is unmarred. I go back and forth on this one. I'm giving it a 6 at the moment, but I may be back for a higher number.

An interesting subject. I go back and forth as to whether the grain is adding something or not. I think so, but just barely. It isn't too noticeable as there is a lot of texture in the water already.
