Great leading line into the image with that curving train track. Lovely diagonal made with the train. Sky is nice and moody, but looks a little too neat-imaged to me perhaps?

Hi from the Critique Club!

First of all, I've never attempted to photograph lightning. I have little idea how to go about it, so I admire anyone that does.

The drama in your image comes from that gorgeous red/orange of the sky and the lightning against it.
I love the fainter lightning streaks, like echoes of the main ones, that you managed to capture.
The huge black cloud is dramatic too; it's imposing and sinister. It gives me a feeling of claustrophobia and nearly dominates the whole image. Perhaps it's a little too dominating for some people?

Because the foreground and cloud are similar in colour it tends to make the image look flat and without depth. Something in the foreground with more definition might have helped.

I find the electricity wires a little distracting. Without the pylons they are attached to they seem out of context. But lightning won't wait for photographers to find the optimum place from which to shoot;)

The focus is slightly off but it's still a great capture of a unique moment in time.

Hi from the Critique Club!

I can see why you chose this location for this challenge. I can also see why you made it black and white - it's a relatively complicated scene and the choice of B&W simplifies it and allows the real subject to dominate.

The reflection really makes this image interesting and helps hold the attention of the viewer. It creates another set of leading lines (the roof and its reflection, on top of the leading lines created by the central tunnel of pillars.

I personally like the single pillar to the right. It gives a sense of scale and depth to the image. Without it the image may have looked a little flat and distant?

The eye is naturally led into the image from the left and moves straight to that pillar, then across that wonderful reflection and down through that tunnel of pillars, giving a sense of flow and movement.

Personally I might have liked a squarer crop to eliminate the blown out highlights on both sides of the image, but that would mean disturbing two of your major leading lines in the roof.

A little bump in the contrast would give it the image a little more impact, but with those blown highlights and basic editing that would be difficult.

A really interesting image and perfect for the challenge.

Hi from the Critique Club!

This image initially grabs the viewer's attention because of the colour. That yellow creates impact and atmosphere. It gives the impression that a huge electrical storm is about to begin, or one has just passed, which fits in well with the challenge. The clouds create a three dimensional feel as they contrast against the lighter parts of the sky and therefore give the image depth.
The pylon is perfectly placed compositionally speaking and the lines leading from top left to bottom right give movement and help lead the eye through the image.
The silhouette of both the pylon and the landscape against the yellow background creates drama.
There is a little noise in the sky but personally speaking I don't mind noise. Some have complained about over sharpening, but to me it's so minute that it doesn't detract from the overall image.

A really dramatic image of an everyday scene. Well done.
