Sorry but there are some things that I think go over the line, regardless if they are legal or not. 2 | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Points for that, but only 7 because I can't tie this to the challenge topic. Great photo though. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/17/2003 12:19:02 AM | Inside looking out!by RobroComment: This is unfortunately one of the hardest kinds of pictures to take effectively. The exposures inside to out are so different, one of them is going to be messed up somehow. The outside is definitely overexposed, the inside is very good with nice colors. One of the few pictures that actually meets the topic. |

Composition - This is not what I would've expected for Fill the Frame. It doesn't make it right or wrong, just what I think. I think that the general composition part would work for this photo, if it were more focused. I wouldn't consider it to be an award winning composition, but one that definitely has more potential that 3.9. The colors are pretty good, maybe a little bit orangy for my tastes. I'd have put the center of the flower slightly more to the right.
Technical - This is the part that really gave this poor flower a hard time, focus. You pretty much always have to have crystal clear focus for most everything you do on DPC. So that was a big problem that the voters found with this picture. I can't say I blame them, it isn't a solid picture. That one element would've probably added a point and a half to you score, just being in focus. But alas... The exposure is pretty good, just maybe a little short on the shutter. the F# tells me that there would be more than just a little shallow focus spot in the center, if it were in focus.
Overall - The lack of focus really hurt this picture. It would've worked much better if it were tack sharp. This soft, almost no pictures on DPC fare well. Hope your next endeavor comes out better. Good Luck - Bob |

Sorry you get stuck with me for your first CC critique
Composition - Good eye. This is a very good subject (I'm not really sold on it for this challenge in particular, but generally speaking I really like it). I like the asymmetry of it. GIves it some character. I like the symmetrical approach you've taken though. That really is cool. Good choice of tones for this photo as well
Technical - Just a bit unsharp (fuzzy or blurry are too harsh). How about soft? After I'd been submitting for 4 or 5 months, someone told me to sharpen once after resizing for every picture, unless it was meant to be soft. I don't like this one soft, I think the detail is too important to this picture to be ignored with soft focus. I may be way off too, but that's my opinion.
Overall - Interesting. Not ribbon winning interesting, but definitely better than average. Its hard for me to say too much here, because I'm probably talking to someone with 5x the experience I have if not way more. Not every "beginner" starts his digital photography career with an s2 pro, which is the camera I'm one day aspiring to own. But will probably be outdated by the time I'm photographer enough to handle one. Its a very good shot and I think you made a good showing for your first picture. I think it would've been a very good showing for my 42nd picture if you must know :) Welcome to the site. I'm sure you'll do well here. - Bob | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Composition - I'm not keen on this idea at all. I don't know why the picture is so dark and so small, and I don't care for the subject at all. It really lacks some visual appeal. I'm sure it tastes great, but unfortunately that doesn't appear to be adequately portrayed by this photograph. There isn't much for colors or anything to give it that little something it needs. Color would've been a good touch. I think the fact that its pasta salad is not helping it. The crap stuck to the noodles looks messy and does not make a noodle photogenic. Its also too dark for my tastes.
Technical - Not badly focused. I'm not sure how to frame this one to make it better. I think this would've definitely benefitted from going thru some major color adjustments to give it some sort of point of interest. I think you pretty much lost most of the voters confidence with very little color and being so dark.
Overall - I think a different subject would be the best way to improve this picture. It isn't really well taken and there isn't a unique camera angle or any other outstanding quality to set it apart from the rest of the field. Your score is pretty fair on this one, at least as I'm seeing it. It does nothing for visual or emotional appeal on the level that it needs to be. I'm not really sure what else to say now except good luck and take care - Bob |

Composition - Nice flower. Good patterns. This might be a little bit darker than I would like it, if it were mine. I think its an easily remedied problem with PS though. The composition is fine aside from being a little dark. So on to the next section
Technical - I made the comment on this photo that some part of the flower should be in focus. That's pretty much the problem with this picture. It can be difficult to choose what gets to be in focus. My logic tells me that the first thing the eye is drawn to gets the most focus. In this case, the closest point of the flower is probably the first seen. Additionally, I think at F8, if you would've got a little of the center of the flower in focus, much more of it would be in focus too. Also I might have considered cropping the bottom of the photo off. I see no reason it needs to be there. It just makes the picture seem even darker.
Overall - Could've been a pretty good image. Biggest thing is the focus. The lighting might've made a little bit of a difference. I think the yellow would've jumped off the page a bit more if you bumped the saturation for yellow up a little and perhaps lightened it up a bit too. The idea was good, the execution was almost there. The focus issue is probably the biggest single factor that pictures get voted down. Good luck and keep shooting - Bob |

Good concept, although I admit I've never heard of the movie. But that won't count against you. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
