Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil

Composition - Nice flower. Good patterns. This might be a little bit darker than I would like it, if it were mine. I think its an easily remedied problem with PS though. The composition is fine aside from being a little dark. So on to the next section

Technical - I made the comment on this photo that some part of the flower should be in focus. That's pretty much the problem with this picture. It can be difficult to choose what gets to be in focus. My logic tells me that the first thing the eye is drawn to gets the most focus. In this case, the closest point of the flower is probably the first seen. Additionally, I think at F8, if you would've got a little of the center of the flower in focus, much more of it would be in focus too. Also I might have considered cropping the bottom of the photo off. I see no reason it needs to be there. It just makes the picture seem even darker.

Overall - Could've been a pretty good image. Biggest thing is the focus. The lighting might've made a little bit of a difference. I think the yellow would've jumped off the page a bit more if you bumped the saturation for yellow up a little and perhaps lightened it up a bit too. The idea was good, the execution was almost there. The focus issue is probably the biggest single factor that pictures get voted down. Good luck and keep shooting - Bob

That's a nice vivid color, and I like the shapes - but I really wish the whole of the flower were in focus; instead, the pieces that don't curl up toward the camera are blurry, but it's hard to take part of the subject as "background" and part as "foreground"....

A little too tight. something here should be in focus, but its just a little off.

Maybe a little too soft for my liking, but very fitting to the challenge.

Nice colours, but I would like it better a bit sharper. I'd also crop out the darker area at the bottom.

Composition: Interesting use of portrait.
Technical: The colour is great, but the flower is out of focus unfortunately.
Meets challenge: Yes
Overall impression: The photo looks a little dark, which most likely won't help focus. When this happens try and hold the camera steady and push the shutter button slowly. Or use a tripod, or rest your camera on something solid. Good effort.
