Fishing Boatsby

Composition - Looks like a pretty lazy day here on this not so populated beachfront. I find this photo needs a focal point. Most of the things around the photo to focus on are barely in the frame. The perspective of this shot is beneficial for showing the great colors of the boats on the beach. There is a lot of sky and water and not too much of anything else. I like the sky and water as much as the next guy, but it needs to be secondary or look more dramatic in some way to bring it to the forefront. This is a great backdrop that really needs a subject.
Photography - Exposure, DOF, are very good. The angle the shot was taken is the biggest thing that comes to mind. With the trees where they are, I don't like the overhead vantage point. I think staying behind the boats, shooting just over top of them would be a good place to start. Without being there, I cannot offer any suggestions beyond that. But I would definitely keep some of the boats in the photo, and try to incorporate the whole peninsula into the photo.
Processing - The color needs to be a little more saturated to have some of the boats stand out a little. The sky is a little dull as well. Besides that, looks good to me.
Overall - This is a very nice area to take photos. This photo is really not maximizing that potential. It is well taken, but not terribly interesting. I think that having less in the frame for this type of shot is more. Less water + Less sky + more color = higher image quality. Good luck on future challenges! - Inspzil
