circle framedby sevilduvarciComment: I love it!
This was one of my very few 10's in this challenge. You have TWO natural circles in your image and both of them have interesting things going on in them.

Dust in the wind.by coreyartComment: Is this really about dust? I see it as being about the rail. The image is dominated by the sharp portion of rail in the foreground. The narrow DOF certainly does not isolate the dust from the rail. I see the narrow DOF as suggesting that although it may look like we are headed down a straight and narrow path, the future is actually pretty fuzzy and uncertain. |

Spitfire Wingby sarsonukComment: This works but I wish you could have made the stuff on the wall even more OOF. |

Dante's Infernoby VitaminBComment: This certainly has a shallow DOF but I don't see it as highlighting a subject. The first half of lines 100-102 are in focus, the middle of 103-105, and the ends of 106-109. What are you trying to say? |

engagementby spleenlessComment: I'm not sure this is what you intended, but . . .
By isolating the man with DOF, you have made him the main subject. He is engaged with the viewer of the photograph, not with the woman. The woman, on the other hand, is looking at the man. Did you mean to be saying that men look out from relationships and women look within them?
If these two people are engaged to be married, the photograph seems to be saying that the man is the important person to the outside world and that the role of the woman is to remain in the background. |

Time Stands Still for Twoby Nikolai1024Comment: I hate selective desat. There wasn't much motion to stop. So why am I giving this a ten? Because it is a wonderful image and a brilliant interpretation of the challenge. |

wheeler-ageofstone-web800.jpgby wheeleddComment: Prism,
Thanks for your comment. This picture won second place in the contest. (I also won first place with the Odyssey image. The judges could not tell who did the shots. I think they were embarrassed to have given the two top prizes to the same person.)
The shadows are a natural result of the panorama process. Think of it this way. I'm standing with my back to the sun. I start by pointing the camera to my left. The shadows in the image go to the right. Then I take a series of shots turning towards the right for each one. By the time I get to last image, I'm looking to the right and the shadows naturally fall to the left.
I'm convinced that the panorama is the best way to capture the essence of this particular sculpture. I was really in the middle of the sculpture. The view I got is very different from what you would get by backing up and taking a long view.

H. A. R. F.by kombizzComment: I have a strong feeling that I am missing the point of this. It is OK as a photo but I don't see any connection to the idea of progress. I did a google search for both harf and H.A.R.F. and I did not find anything that helped me understand this. The links I found verified Turkish and other Arabic connections which fit the Arabic letter forms in the photo. Sorry. (3) |

"Standing on my own two feet"by LimboComment: Every kid is making progress but this is the only image in the challenge that I think successfully conveys the difficulties and successes of moving along the developmental path. (10) |
