hard lifeby kuarkComment: The lighting is fantastic. I love the wrinkles in the man's skin, and the highlights in the hair. The bokeh of the water behind him is great. I am green with envy over this much of the photo - I hope I might one day do as well.
I don't get the whole diamond thing going onin the left third of the photo. I find this really distracting and wonder if the photo could have been cropped just inside this. Even if this had meant losing some more of the hands, I think this would have helped. This would have allowed cropping of the vast black area in the sweater also. This would purge the photo of all unnecessary clutter.
The statement of pain is subtle but clear. After looking at photos in this area for several hours, this puts this photo among the ten or twenty best in the category. Really good job! |

Farewell Agent Orange?by MakkaComment: I get it, It's a blood orange! The blood is convincing. I know this is an almost ridiculous quibble, but it looks like a cheap knife - one that could not cut through a tomato. And this makes me fear it ever-so-much less. This loss of respect for the instrument causes the photo's impact to unravel quickly. As a rule I hate gore in photos, but the humor - intended or not- makes up for this. |

Stuck in glassby dyriComment: It's a clever concept. And it's an unusual presentation. It looks almost deliberately amateurish (as opposed to accidentally amateurish) But it is really quite unconvincing. |

The last sightby greslizzzComment: Normally I hate grizzly photos; but here there is drammatic tension. The deed has not been done. A powerful and haunting image. The razor sharp focus on the eye instead of the instrument of damage was a good choice and the lighting is just about perfect. Finally, I appreciate being able to see the bottom of the eye through the slot in the blade. |

Lossby SteveSeeComment: Why is it that we find it impossible to believe that neatly coiffed men never experience pain? This makes it makes this harder to believe. The tension between the real , live, temporary sadness and the everlasting and ever-dead 'hope' of carved stone makes the photo interesting. |

painby mocabelaComment: Great light. Sharp focus, tight composition. If there is a flaw in the photo it might be a somewhat less than compelling actor. We cannot assert that we think she is not really feeling pain, we simply feel she fails to share it with us. |

@#?*#%^@*!!!!!!!!!!by bruskiComment: Reminiscent of the Steve Martin stand up routine in which he comes out and does a whole routine with an arrow through his head - never a mentio of the arrow. It's a cute shot, clever, funny, thematic. But it seems uncompelling. |
