Where is the moment that holds no pain,
Down to the Grave-Are its Hopes in Vain.
~Ella Wilcox

Walking from a government building today in the dreary mist I found myself forlorn and wondered into a graveyard nearby. In the middle of dozens of graves which all dated to the 1800's was this one new tombstone with the family name "Hope". Regardless of how this, my first submission, does the power of the moment still moved me. And my picture will hold it steadfast for all my years.

Why is it that we find it impossible to believe that neatly coiffed men never experience pain? This makes it makes this harder to believe. The tension between the real , live, temporary sadness and the everlasting and ever-dead 'hope' of carved stone makes the photo interesting.

Very strong entry. Colors and tones are fabulous- muted with hints of red are very appropriate. One of my favorites from this challenge.

Good processing. Border a little heavy. Wish the face was slightly brighter.

I can't quite touch it, but something is missing.

The body language of your subject is not that of someone in pain, It's more likely, he would be trying to withdraw from the world and curled up in a ball. good photo technique

This is a moving photograph - and a great depiction of pain. Something about the "young-ness" of the guy -- and the poignancy of the name being "Hope". I like the picture a lot. It looks like maybe there was a little too much contrast from the bright sky, which makes the focus and the levels off when adjustments are made to compensate for it. I have had to learn that lesson the hard way. It's a hard problem to fix in a photo. But I really do like the picture a lot.

This is a great picture, nicely composed, I like the touch of the red flowers (?) in the upper right corner. I hope this one will end in the top 10. (10)

This is nice. I like the conflict of the title and the man against the word hope. Nice composition, a bit off-center, tight crop. The legs and arms form a triangle of leading lines that guide me towards the man's face. 10.

Nice use of irony. Good colors, too.
