Generally to make a shot more appealing in such situation, try and cut back the flash or any from of front light, and by metering for the backlight will give you a beautiful silhouette....good effort, beautiful colors

This picture has alot of potential, should have left the arch complete (instead of cropping the top off) also use a slightly different angle to get more of the bridge and not that piece of concrete structure on the bottom left.
