I think this is such a great shot, David. For me, the fact that there are two birds really gives this image interest. Their feathers are amazing. Congratulations on a great image!

Wow. Yes, this is exactly what I meant to leave in the photographer's comments box :-)

Thanks for taking the time, Paul. Just as I was about to delete this shot ... now it will stay here a while longer.

Here we have the ultimate bucolic scene. Gently rolling pastoral land, and the abundant evidence of a man's honest labour. It's an ordered, timeless world, ruled not by clocks and meeting agenda, but by the sun and the seasons. The land here is both harvested and nurtured, a perpetual cycle of mutual benefit.

But in the foreground, there appears in the rank weed heads the evidence of another, wilder world snapping and snarling at the very borders of Shangri-La. A world of haste and neglect. A world consuming itself in ruin. This malevolent land yields nothing. Quod Severis Metes.

Separating these two incompatible foes is a road; a protective membrane that guards the gentler land from infection by its chaotic neighbour's primitive excesses. And just in case those damned weeds don't get the message, there's a bloody big sign.

The tenderness here is beautiful. Nice shadow of the child in the pond and as always, fantastic composition. I get a lump in my throat looking at this one.

Hi there, biteme - just wanted to say that this deserved at least a 6.4 :-) I enjoyed the shot and enjoyed reading your comments about it. I learned a lot from reading the comments made, too. I think you have a perfect face for this kind of profile shot. It might be interesting to see your nose area, around where your pants are sticking out a little, slightly more defined. Hmmm, that last part of the comment sounds funny. Just PM me if you want me to explain :-)

Thanks for all the comments made during the challenge. I was shocked that this did so well, because, well ... I just didn't think it had anything too special and the snow is blue :-) But I'm thrilled to have this top score and bump my older disasters down a little from my profile page.

Daniel, Paul, Sandy, and Judy: I especially want you to know how much I loved seeing these congratulatory notes from you four. What a bunch of sweethearts. Someday, I'll submit something truly worthy of your talents. Thanks again.
