Little Bird, Big Woodsby ArtysteComment: Even with the selective desat the first thing I notice about this (other than a vaguely distracting blue blur) is the beautiful texture and tones in the bark. Then I get to looking at the bird and it is very pretty but I can't see enough detail (nor is there a catchlight in the eye to draw me in closer) and I'm quickly losing focus and back to those wonderful bark and funghi textures. I don't think it's that the bird isn't beautiful or interesting but that, for me, it's overshadowed by the tree itself. I wonder how it would look if perched on a duller tree? Of course I don't know if it's a bird that only ever perches in one tree type so... |

A Cool Drinkby bruskiComment: Nice close up study with lovely detail in eye, whiskers and that little bit of tongue. I like the close crop. I don't think I've ever said this in a comment before but... I really think this image would be stronger with the addition of a border to provide a frame to the content. |

Sandlot by crabappl3Comment: Absolutely stunning backlight - and yet still a glint in the eye. Did you use flash or was there some ambient light or did you need to dodge a little on the eyes to bring that out? Whichever it is the result is superb. Very intimate portrait of one of my favourite critters. |

Hornbillby divernickComment: What a handsome Grey Hornbill - nice pose (lord knows how they don't get poked to heck by those acacia thorns) and nice catchlight in the eye. Whilst I like the shape provided by some of the branches I think the wider shot results in a loss of impact overall. |

Famishedby connieComment: I like the way that your entry points out that a "natural environment" isn't necessarily one that excludes humans. Lovely image. |

The Lion Sleepeth...by doctornickComment: Stunning, very evocative of safari memories since these magnificent creatures really do sleep so much of the time don't they? Beautifully composed, good light, nice level of detail in cat and branch. Just lovely. |

The Blue Windowby aKiwiComment: Wonderfully vibrant in colour and in shapes. Feels a little lacking in texture though. Nice composition, nice use of space. 7 (//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=129433) |
