In the valleyby alithenakeComment: This will probably score very well, but not with me I'm afraid. I think it has too many competing elements to be a truly memorable image. Each of these elements (fence, rustic buildings, middle ground, misty valleys, majestic mountains, dramatic sky) might make a worthy subject in itself, or in combinations of any 2 or 3 perhaps, but seen all together the effect is of a dischordant jumble. The technical quality of the photograph is very nice, even if it does seem a bit tilted to starboard. Sorry to be negative (I am hoping to be constructive) ... and I'm sure you'll get many positive comments, so you can easily afford to disregard this one if you wish. 5. |

The Oceanfrontby bbrightComment: Lovely delicate photograph. The tonal range is very impressive; both exposure & processing were finely judged. It's a very interesting, stylish composition, too. 7 No, it's better than that ... second thought = 9. |

Cityscapeby pelfComment: The best of all the cityscape images. I love the beautiful light as it defines the shapes of the buildings. And of course the spectacular background lifts it even further above the ordinary. Nice work. 7 |

The Stormby mpembertonComment: This is a very ambitious landscape, because it has so little land in it! For me it works very well. I like the tower ( I don't think it's a lighthouse?) ... it gives scale and depth to the marvellous cloudscape. 7 |

The Three Treesby Marc923Comment: It's a lovely photograph that is a little spoiled by the fact that the right hand tree is broken. Somehow this imperfection interrupts the harmony of the scene for me, and diminishes my enjoyment of it. Not your fault, of course (unless you broke the tree), but it does make the subject less worthy. Other than that, you've done a beautiful job with composition, capture and processing. The subtle gradient in the sky is especially nice. 7 |

Quite Spiritsby bruskiComment: Odd title but a terrific photograph. I love the juxtaposition of the two dominant structures ... the bush and the mountain have equal billing here, and the photograph is all the better and more interesting for that choice. Simple decisions like that are what separates memorable photographs (especially landscapes) from all the forgettable two-dimensional postcard shots. Well done. 8. |

Season's Endby cools98Comment: This looks like the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Wherever it is, it's a terrific image. I love the fact that relegation of the 'land' part of the landscape to the bottom 20% of the frame actually makes it look even more spectacular. It emphasises the wonderful depth of the scene. Nice work. 7 |

At the Dimming of the Dayby susiComment: Very fine image of a simple but pleasing scene that would have been easy to overlook. Nicely spotted and captured. 8 |

Aloneby bernmayComment: Terrific. An elegant, flag-like composition where each element plays a critical role, and nothing is superfluous. A nice example of vision too, because this landscape would not have looked like this from anywhere but right here. 9. |

Desert Skinby crabappl3Comment: My favourite landscape in the challenge. I'm surprised to see it in B&W, given the colours that must have been there. Surprised, but not at all disappointed; this treatment allows the viewer to give due attention to the astonishing tone and texture of the thing. Absolutely absorbing image, beautifully composed and presented. 10. |
