Thronesby odriewComment: This is my top pick for the challenge. It's more than just a portrait of wild animals; it's about who they are, rather than simply what they look like. That's a dimension that is lamentably missing from so many wildlife portraits: the proper environmental context. This spectacular environment is not just awe-inspiring to look at, it also tells the viewer a lot about the sheep; their life style, their adaption, what their physical skills must be like. Are they Dall sheep from around Denali perhaps? The other possibility is Tibetan Argali sheep but that seems improbable. My money's on Alaska. Really wonderful, absorbing wildlife photography. Thank you. |

after the ballby tnunComment: This is wonderfully confusing. The ball is ... what? Some kind of float? I first though it was the moon from the thumbnail. The heron, who is a grey heron I think, seems unimpressed by the ball. The water is severely tilted and seems to be flowing uphill. All in all, it's a puzzle and I like that very much. I'll be trying again for sure. Thank you. |

Stealth ~ Green Heron by Ja-9Comment: Perfect picture of the beautiful green-backed heron. These are among my favourite birds to observe, very skilful hunters with great patience and (as you say) stealth. Superb wildlife picture. Thank you. |

Komodo Dragon on the Prowlby ChrischiaComment: Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but in spite of the many Komodo pictures I've seen before, this is the first time I have realised just how marked is the diagonally-opposite gait of this species. Probably it looks so exaggerated because the legs go so far sideways when off the ground. Illustrating that probably wasn't your intention, but either way, thank you. |

Wadersby illini75Comment: Such wonderful knees! This is a particularly interesting picture because of the two specimens are depicted doing different things. So we see clearly what the bird looks like in the central version, and we see why it looks that way in the right-had version. A wildlife photograph that reveals something interesting about the subject: isn't that the genre's ultimate raison d'être? To which I say yep. Thank you. |
